Historia
While working as an intelligence analyst in Iraq for the United States Army in 2010, Chelsea Manning disclosed more than seven hundred thousand classified military and diplomatic records that she had smuggled out of the country on the memory card of her digital camera. In 2011 she was charged with twenty-two counts related to the unauthorized possession and distribution of classified military records, and in 2013 she was sentenced to thirty-five years in military prison.

Eye Opening
Revisado: 10-28-22
I don’t want to say to much because I don’t want to spoil it. I still think Manning was wrong and should not have done what she did, but the way she was treated was inexcusable.
Note: sometimes it’s a good idea to have the author read the work, and sometimes it’s better to hire a professional narrator. This is a very personal and moving story, but it was read with all of the emotion of a reading of a math textbook.

Historia
In the far reaches of the solar system, the outer planets - billions of miles from Earth, unknown for millennia - are being settled. Neptune, the ice giant, is swathed in clouds of hydrogen, helium, and methane and circled by rings of rock and dust. Three years ago, Ilona Magyr’s father, Miklos, disappeared while exploring the seas of Neptune. Everyone believes he is dead - crushed, frozen, or boiled alive in Neptune’s turbulent seas.

This book was free, and it wasn't worth the money
Revisado: 01-10-22
I've heard good things about Ben Bova, but I've never read any of his work. When Audible offered this book for free, I took them up on it, even though I knew that it was the second book in a series. That might have been a mistake.
This book was bad. The story was boring, slow moving, and made no sense. (Spoiler Alert - if you doubt the evidence found by a crew on a mission, you don't send them back a second time to find more of the same evidence. You send a different set of people to verify what the first crew found.) Even during the dangerous, suspenseful parts, i never felt like the characters were in danger. All of the "perils" they faced felt more like inconveniences. And it took them forever to figure out how to get out of "danger" when the solutions were obvious to the reader.
There is one HUGE conclusion that the book jumped to that made no sense to me, regarding something that happened on the planet Uranus. I realized that it must have been explained in the first book. I wish Bova had just added a couple of paragraphs to bridge that knowledge gap.
The interpersonal stories between the shipmates are shallow and seemingly pointless. The main character has suspicions about whether another character can be trusted, but that never gets resolved. And the book ends with a bit of a cliffhanger. It feels like the whole book was intended to get you from "Uranus" to whatever the third book is, which made me wonder why Audible chose to offer this one for free. I'm guessing it's because it was selling so poorly. If it was to introduce new readers to Bova's work, all it did was convince me to stay away from this author.

Meanwhile, Angie Armstrong, wildlife wrangler extraordinaire, is called to the island to deal with a monster-sized Burmese python that has taken residency in a tree. But the President is focused on the disappearance of Kiki Pew.

Not for Trump Supporters
Revisado: 04-09-21
If you are a Trump supporter, you will hate this book. If you believe the former president is a narcissistic hoodlum with the intellect of a 5-year-old and the temperament of a 2-year-old, then this book is classic Hiaasen.

I thought I would like this book...
Revisado: 10-05-19
... but I didn't expect that I would connect with it so strongly. I've been a Mythbusters fan for years so, of course, I'm familiar with Adam. But after listening to this audiobook, I feel like I've found a kindred spirit. Part inspirational, part instructional, and part autobiographical, this book helped me to identify things about myself that have always been there, but were never really explored. I'm no youngster (I'm a few year older than Adam), but I was able to take away some life lessons and gain some insights into myself.

Mildly Interesting
Revisado: 08-27-16
The title should have been "As You Expected: Mildly Interesting Tales from the Making of Pretty Much Any Movie." There is not one "inconceivable" tale in the entire book. I didn't go into the book hoping for dirt or gossip, and I'm glad to hear everyone was really nice and a pleasure to work with, but there were no amazing tales. It's the story of the making of a great movie, where everything went pretty much according to plan.
It's somewhat autobiographical, which is to be expected. A huge amount of the book is the author, along with others, talking about how great everyone else is and how humble they were to be working with them. Elwes also spends a chapter summarizing the story for those unfamiliar with the book or movie. (I can't imagine who would be listening to this book if they hadn't seen the movie!)
As a narrator, Elwes did a fine job. He did impressions of the people he spoke about, some of which were pretty good. He is great with accents. There were a lot of sound bites from the other cast members, as well as the director, producer and writer. These were mostly gratuitous, the majority adding no additional information, just echoing what the narrator said.
The book would have made a decent magazine article or 18-minute TED Talk.

Historia
At last, one of the world’s greatest works of science fiction is available - just as author Stanislaw Lem intended it. To mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of Solaris, Audible, in cooperation with the Lem Estate, has commissioned a brand-new translation - complete for the first time, and the first ever directly from the original Polish to English. Beautifully narrated by Alessandro Juliani ( Battlestar Galactica), Lem’s provocative novel comes alive for a new generation.

Is it just me?
Revisado: 08-12-11
Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't get through it. I'd never heard of this book before, but I've read and enjoyed a lot of classic sci-fi, so I bought it. I thought it was an average Star Trek episode painfully dragged out to 7 + mind-numbing hours. I finally quit after 4 1/2, so this book may have the greatest ending of all time, but I'll never know. As for the narrator, his voice alternates between a barely audible whisper and full-on yelling, so it's almost impossible to listen in the car.

Historia
You're driving on a deserted road when your car dies. Your cell phone isn't getting service. All you have on hand are a gum wrapper and a wire hanger. Or maybe you're living in a building without central air conditioning in July. You can't afford an AC; all you have access to are a fan and a bucket of water. In such times of desperation, many have called upon the symbol of all that is inventive, the hero who awed thousands with his cool, quick wit: "What would MacGyver do?" they ask.

Horrible!
Revisado: 01-29-07
This is first time I have written an Audible review. But this book was so bad that I have to warn others. I am a huge MacGyver fan - I even named my dog MacGyver 15 years ago. So any book on this topic was a no-brainer; I had to get it, regardless of what anyone else said. I should have taken the advice of the other reviewers. Most of the stories in here barely qualify. There's even a story where all of the MacGyverisms fail!
Each chapter has an introduction, and each story has a title. More often than not, the text of the intro and/or the story title give away the AHA! that is supposed to be the payoff of the story! So what little suspense that does exist is eliminated before the story even begins.
I'm giving this book one star because I don't think the system allows me to give less than that. Do not waste your money on this book.
