In my top 5!
Revisado: 04-17-25
I have listened to hundreds of romantasy & fantasy books, but this series is definitely in my top 5! In fact, it's my #2, behind my #1 favorite series, A.E. Rayne's The Furyck Saga.
This series takes you on a fantastic adventure full of magic, battles, slow-burn romance, enemies-to-lovers, betrayal, twists, tears, and swollen hearts. The storyline is refreshingly unique and had it's talons in me from the first line of book 1.
Book 2 picks up seamlessly from the end of book 1, unfolding the plot with good pace. As in book 1, a fraction is predictable, but not frustratingly so. The writing & narration flawlessly kept me enthralled to the end. I cannot wait for book 3!

Stands above so many
Revisado: 04-16-25
Absolutely astonishing beginning! This was a cool breeze on a sweltering day. Narration, storyline, arc, character development, world-building, all of it, was brilliant & stunning. The depth from beginning to end was immersed with such detail, it pulled me in to the very last word. I'm excited to jump into book 2. Well done!

Horrible Narrator
Revisado: 04-15-25
Was this an accidental draft that got published? It's Assassin's Blade with terrible narration with repetitive title announcement before each chapter. Listening to this narrator was like being in the most boring college lecture in a monotone voice, no variation between characters, mispronounced basic words, characters, and locations, to the point where I fell asleep mant times. I'm going to see if I can get my credit back.

WTH was that?!?!
Revisado: 04-14-25
Like, what?!?!? This relationship went from 0 to 100 in a split second at the end of book 1. Now, with every fight, nothing is resolved, no accountability, and too many pointless apologizes, but there is seggx. *eye roll* It does nothing to move either the story or the relationship on. We get it, they lust for each other. Great. Can we get on with the story?
Character development is barely perceived, except for Adrian. He becomes mentally & physically ab*sive, as if the demon side takes over. Great metaphor for not taking responsibility for being an ab*ser. Always comes back with an apology, she just sucks it up, and they're in each other's pants again. And he's condescending now too, like every other MMC in romantasy books where they "know better." but let the fmc fumble along trying to figure it out. again, another form of ab*se. That's not love, it's manipulative af.
Book 1 had so much potential and I could over look a few things, but this one has my gut roiling and me yelling at my phone.

Good story, but some ick
Revisado: 04-14-25
The story is written well and the female narrator did an excellent job. The male narrator just didn't do it for me though. He didn't have that gruff, broody tone. The voices for other characters kinda fell short and made them sound nasally.
Regarding the story itself, Adrien's role was kind of predictable regarding the marriage proposal. *eye roll* On a good note, he wasn't your typical control freak, nor did he do anything schmucky to demean Isolde. Isolde, on the other hand, did not disappoint! She didn't lose her bad a**ery for a man.

Landslide of Tropes
Revisado: 02-27-25
You get a trope! You get a trope! You get a trope!
Good gracious, this book is painfully full of them and not done very well. The fmc is an idi0t, the mmc is a cookie-cutter character, and the whole story is a miasma of badly woven tropes.
I dnf'd at ch. 18 bc I have better things to do with my time.

Not for me
Revisado: 02-21-25
Info dump city. Narrator's flip between narration without an accent to doing the voices with makes my head spin and is not done with natural tones/inflections.
Now to the story. it's just not my cuppa. By ch 2, I was like, "NOPE. nope. nope." Maybe it's my hang up, but I can't stand when a strong FMC is cowed by the MMC forcibly. I'm not talking about 🍇 (but that too). I'm talking about men in power taking "ownership" of the FMC. Whether it be arranged marriage, royalty over subject, etc, etc. Then they 'fall in love." Ummm...F that. Women have not been put on this planet to fix a man, be his servant, or his accessory. Please authors, do better.

Historia
When I jetted off to Vegas for a reluctant girls’ weekend, the last thing I expected was to tumble through a portal into an alternate reality. Now, I'm stuck in a world straight out of a fantasy, collared by a king who can't stand the sight of me, and roped into a deal he insists I struck in a previous life - a life where I was an Elven princess, arch-rival to his court. I keep telling myself it's all a crazy dream, but the memories that barrage me every night are too real to ignore.

I cannot stand this trope. Firstly, she's supposed to be smart, yet doesn't keep an eye on her drink? In this day & age IN VEGAS?!?! Seriously? That was my first red flag, but then it gets worse. FMC basically gets kidnapped on behest of a king who drops the 411 of her being an elf princess and then COLLARS her with ownership. He then proceeds to only cloth her in lingerie-esque and keeps her locked up. Blah, blah, blah, Chapter skip, chapter skip, chapter skip bc I've read how this goes a billion times. Save a kingdom, fall I love with your ahole captor or some poop nonsense, then become some kind of BA at the end to save the day. Whatever. I only skipped more chapters to get me far enough in the book so I can Rate & Review it or else I would've DNF this garbage at ch. 4.

The ending though, completely shook me. I did not see that coming and had my feelings all over the place.
Narration was on-point, beautiful story arc, and I am extremely satisfied how it ended.
I do wonder how they'll integrate back into society. Would love so see maybe a novella on those challenges. Anywho, great job, KC! Keep 'em coming!

Lots of skipping
Revisado: 01-13-25
I hate this "I love you, even though I've been lying to you since we met, but it's for your own good/greater good." And she be like, "Oh, you love me? Okay, you're forgiven, even though the lies, betrayal, and humiliation nearly destroyed me. Let's hit the sheets because I can only show you how much I love you if you're between my legs."
It's been a year and she hasn't gone through the stages of loss and grieved the demise of their relationship. Just sputtering around the hate merey-go-round. Then within a few days, is back on Team Wilder. This makes no psychological sense. Her 180⁰ weakens her character.
The justification and Wilder not taking any ownership of the wrong he's done, is another huge ick for me. Blah, blah, blah, 30-second skip, 30-second skip. Yes, his reasons are noble, but an apology for his buttholery should've been the #1 talking point, THEN go into the whys. This brought my opinion of him even lower.
The points/justifications to change her tune make no sense either. Whatever. "I don't deserve his forgiveness." You have got to be kidding me. Really?!?! They wouldn't be at odds if he trusted her and didn't withhold information. Like, DUH! My eyes hurt from rolling too hard.
Depending how this book ends, I may not finish this series unless I hear that apology.
