Historia
The ninth floor. Nine armies, each led by rich and powerful aliens from across the galaxy. Each team has one objective: to capture and hold the castle at the very center of the battlefield. Strategy, alliances, pitched battles, and, of course, betrayal ... It all makes for great fun and even greater television. After all, none of these powerful aliens really die when they’re playing war. Except this time. This time, winner takes all. Those who fall, stay in the ground.

A brutally honest review
Revisado: 02-18-25
This was a fun read, but it is by far the worst book in the series.
I returned the Graphic audio version to get this one. Its just better. I love the voice acting.
My major complaints are:
Carl has no real agency. He seems to get dragged from scene to scene so that other characters can get some air time.
My second complaint is that this book just keeps ratcheting things up and there is no room to breath.
Third. There are to many characters in this book.
fourth, The AI Is just to OP outside the dungeon.
And fifth. You just had to many plot lines to tie up from previous books.
I feel like this novel should have been broken up. If you doubled the page count, some of this stuff would have felt earned, and not just a footnote onto the next scene.
I have hope the next book will be more concentrated. It needs to focus on Carl and Doughnut, with a supporting cast.
As for the Happenings outside the dungeon, Slow it down. Politics take longer than a boss battle.
The former crawlers that got introduced, I loved the writings from the cookbook at the beginning of chapters. Those would have been better going back a couple of books. That way when they were introduced in this book, it would have been more impactful. Treat characters like Chekov's Gun. If they don't server a vital plot point, ditch the character and give the scene to a better character. Jamal the shark is a great example. So annoying. and he never did anything that mattered. He was just an annoying character that added problems to an already bloated book. Give these scenes to the other crawlers that were introduced. A dynamic duo situation to show off the talent of the veterans would have been cool.
The worst plot hole that was created was a maxed out Crawler theoretically able to solo the end game boss. That was a slot previously held by Prepotente.
This book feels like you had so many idea's, but no way to show them, so you made the reader omnipotent and able to see everything happening in the world. All knowledge Carl would not have access to. In the end it felt like a DM monolog and lore dump in DnD.
All in all this book was a good rough draft. It needs to be work shopped badly. and a lot of fat trimmed.

Standard YA novel
Revisado: 02-02-25
It was enjoyable, it's a set of obstacles and locations that take you through the world and peoples. All the good people are good, all the bad people are bad. Its a popcorn flick. Everything works out in the end. The writing is competent and enjoyable. Interactions and characters are well defined and in character. But at no time was i ever uncertain about the fate of anyone. So while i enjoyed it, i am not moving on to any other books in the series. HOWEVER, the writing in this is better than most and so i would still encourage others to read it. As most fantasy cant even reach this standard. 7/10.

Will Jordan Finally hits his stride
Revisado: 12-10-24
I am a fan of Will Jordan, And got the books to support him. I also love this genre so it seemed like a win win. I have struggled through this series until i got to this book. Books 1-6 were clunky with inconsistent character abilities and personalities, who made obviously bad decisions. And with personalities that made no sense for their profession. Anya has never had any reason for people to help her except plot armor.
Book 7. All characters were solidly written. They made decisions consistent with there character. They were all competent and resourceful. Enough information was given and held back that i always wanted to listen a little bit more to find out what was going to happen. Plenty of twists. Frost is still the weakest character, but she didn't have an opportunity to be fleshed out with every other character getting a polish. So i hold out hope for her in the next book.
Ryan finally acted like a professional soldier. Not somebody who fell into a job way above his paygrade.
Thank you for humanizing Anya. She was such a Marie Sue. it was insufferable. This book emphasized her weaknesses and overcoming them. and Alex came into his own too.
Lauren being the foil for the audience really helped. She got to ask questions and get us answers. Someone to root for and use as a scale for power levels of everyone she came in contact with. Usually civilians have been mannequins to be blown up or ignored.
I went from listening a couple hours at a time in books 1-6 to listening to book 7 in one day. On to book 8!

Historia
James Crowley has ridden the road to Crescent City before, but never with companions like these. Never with a woman whose very presence jeopardizes everything he’s fought for over the past two decades. The swamps are a brutal, nasty place filled with creatures most people think only exist in nightmares and fever dreams. When Crowley, along with Rosa, Bram Stoker, Harker, and Irish stumble upon such a creature, and one of their party finds themselves mortally wounded, they must find help in the most unlikely of places.

the author doesn't know when to stop.
Revisado: 09-16-24
pros
I like the character, the voice actor is perfect, world building is interesting
cons
he does not know how to let something build tension. and plot twists can be seen from a mile away. there is to many plots happening at once and non of them get their due.
I really like the first book and the prequel. But this one feels like he threw everything at the wall thinking he might not get another book. 3 plots could be their own story in the series. and they needed at least one other book to give them time. sadly, they open and shut so fast you don't have time to enjoy them.

Historia
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

i gave up on his sci-fi book because i saw it was ust deus ex mechana all the time. so there were no stakes. so i was excited about this book thinking it would be more grounded. so what did i get?
a feeling this series is going nowhere. the premise and introduction are interesting. but it is all down hill from Marcus. a badly written character. and the plot doesnt seem to move along. And i am not kidding, i think 1/3 of this book describes eating

Anna does boring things for terrible people because even criminals need office help and she needs a job. Working for a monster lurking beneath the surface of the world isn’t glamorous. But is it really worse than working for an oil conglomerate or an insurance company? In this economy? A sharp, witty, modern debut, Hench explores the individual cost of justice through a fascinating mix of millennial office politics, heroism measured through data science, body horror, and a profound misunderstanding of quantum mechanics.

the message
Revisado: 07-01-23
1. the author is very good at writing.
2. the story is well told.
3. they are a raging feminist. so if that bothers you this is going to be grating.
i buy into the world. i loke the characters. i like gow, being evil they see the heros as the bad guys. but every woman is a girl boss, and every guy is either 1 gay, 2 infatuated with the mc, 3 incompetent and evil. that really killed charcter devlopement. and so i just skimmed over names knowing they didnt matter. so this book was good, but it could have been great.

book one was interesting, book 2 seemed kinda pointless. book three and four had bad one liners and lack luster story. book 5 tied it all together nicely and built anticipation well with astrong finish.
no sex, no cussing. the author actually tried to rely on talent. it is a power fantasy but with a legit explanation you can buy. i feel like he edited the book doing word find, replacing 'Damm it' with devils doughnuts. i found it annoying but have it a pass.
