Young Adult NOT Epic Fantasy

I wanted to return it just one hour in but couldn’t remember how 🙄. So, I stuck with it to the bitter end, mostly because of so many high reviews. I THOUGHT it would get better. NOT! It was just a bunch of Tween & Teen age dribble from beginning to end and the narrator read it that way. I spent the entire time rolling my eyes in my head whilst listening to it. I WILL NOT be getting the next book in the series.

It’s been so long since I’ve had an audiobook hold me enthralled to the end. I’ve listened to so many mediocre mystery thrillers that I was beginning to think I couldn’t be pleased. But I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I binge listened yesterday to get to the end. Now I’m sad it’s over. Definitely going to get the next book in the series. If you’re intrigued by the synopsis at all, get it. You won’t be sorry.

Age of Myth Series is Prerequisite

I know the author feels this is a stand-alone series, but I respectfully disagree! I would have HATED to have listened to this book before listening to the Age of Myth series. There were WAY too many references to that series that would have left me feeling like I was on the outside of an inside joke. With that said, I loved the book because it picked up where the last book in the Age of Myth series left us. I am anxious to get the next book in the series to see how the story will play out and tie in to the Ryira Chronicles, which of course, is my FAVORITE of this on-going saga. Michael Sullivan is a master at building worlds and character development. I will never be able to get enough of this story!!!! Highly recommend this book, but I recommend you listen/read the Age of Myth series first to fully enjoy this new series!

Seems Like a Young Adult Novel

I am use to epic fantasy novels. This story line is okay but there is no depth to the characters or story. It reads like a young adult book that would be suitable for middle school aged kids.

Too Much Sex

I really wanted to like this book. I love urban fantasy. I loved Charline Harris' Midnight series! I have now tried twice to listen to this book. I even forgot why I stopped listening months ago when I first added this book to my library. Well, five hours into this nine hour book, I know why......because the minute Sookie and Vampire Bill have sex, that's all this book becomes. Just one jaunt into bed after another. This time I am writing a review so I don't make the mistake of trying to listen to it again.

Fun Short Listen

I typically like Epic Fantasy series novels where each book in the series is well over 15 hours long and oftentimes over 20 hours each. However I have been on a dry streak of "unsatisfying books" when I came across this series and decided to give it a try. It was a fun listen that introduced a wide range of characters in a relatively short time (8 hr book) while still providing a good storyline for the first in a series. I enjoyed it enough that I am going to try the next book in the series with the hope that the story line and characters will grow with each book.
