Historia
Frederick Fife was born with an extra helping of kindness in his heart. If he borrowed your car, he’d return it washed with a full tank of gas. The problem is there’s nobody left in Fred’s life to borrow from. At eighty-two, he’s desperately lonely, broke, and on the brink of homelessness. But Fred’s luck changes when, in a bizarre case of mistaken identity, he takes the place of grumpy Bernard Greer at the local nursing home. Now he has warm meals in his belly and a roof over his head—as long as his poker face is in better shape than his prostate and that his look-alike never turns up.

Historia
After arriving on Block Island to find her birth mother, Blake Bronson becomes convinced she’s the heroine of a gothic novel—the kind that allowed her intermittent escape from a traumatic childhood. How else to explain the torrential rain, the salt-worn mansion known as White Hall, and the restless ghost purported to haunt its halls? But before Blake can discern the novel’s ending, she’s found dead, murdered in a claw-foot tub. The proprietress of White Hall stands accused.

Gothically Good!
Revisado: 04-19-24
This novel is surprisingly good! It made me care about the Daughters and had me hooked early. The last chapter of Part 1 really got me going. I can't reveal much here because of spoilers but here are the last sentences: "The world becomes water, sound is reduced to the rocking of waves, the puttering of the rain. The rain slows then stops..... silence.... and more silence........ and more silence. It gave me chills, well done by the narrator also.
The book dealt with characters in addiction and recovery in a very careful and respectful manner. These issues were woven well into the story. I must say I really liked this!!

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Author took what could have been a very sad story and injected magic into it. Everything about this book is top tier. The writing style, the descriptions, the fleshed out characters and the two narrators made this book worth every second of listening. Loved it!

Enough mystery to offset the romance. The author created a cozy scene there on the mountain. I enjoyed this quite a bit!

Absolutely Exellent
Revisado: 09-13-20
Michael Connelly's stand alone novel here brings us Cassie Black who seems to be just a regular ex-con. Wrong! She is completely underestimated. The real play here is the relationship between Cassie and her 5 1/2 year old daughter Jodie (who was given up for adoption before her prison sentence). There is a very formidable adversary "Karch" who is as devious as a magician. Loved this book!!

A 50 year Saga of one family. Amazing!!
Revisado: 07-30-20
As an avid audiobook listener, I found this one to be so smooth flowing that it was deceptive. The Narrator Matt Godfrey was awesome and easy to listen to. He never seemed to tire in the whole 30 hours. The thing is that there is so much detail being doled out in every sentence. You (the listener) really have to concentrate. I found myself hitting the rewind a lot as I was just flowing with the current of the Perdido River.
It is so well written that you don't want to miss any of the details, which is amazing because of the length of the book. I loved the aspect of the supernatural. It was parceled out (didn't dominate the book) but you never knew when it would strike. There was a troubling aspect of race. Black people were hired as servants and that may be accurate in 1920's Alabama. They were continued on in much the same vein through the 1960's. I am not a history student and I am not sure if this is accurate enough to be called a "Period Piece". They were also referred to as "colored" and I didn't care for that. Still, the book was very inclusive of the Sapp family who all resided in Baptist Bottom (the part of Perdido most devistated by the flood).
Overall 5 stars, didn't want it to end!

Historia
This live performance of a powerful police procedural comes to life through the artistry of Celeste Lecesne and is accompanied by the original music of Duncan Sheik. Celeste portrays every character in a small Jersey Shore town as they unravel the story of Leonard Pelkey, a tenaciously optimistic and flamboyant 14-year-old boy who has gone missing. A luminous force of nature whose magic is only truly felt once he is gone, Leonard becomes an unexpected inspiration as the town’s citizens question how they live, who they love, and what they leave behind.

This is just a fun and entertaining story about a teenage boy in New Jersey. The narration is off the chain good. The message this story sends really deals with the issues of bullying and gender identification. I loved it!!

Something incredible here!
Revisado: 04-16-20
I have to say that I feel like this novel has more to it than I could comprehend. I have a sense that it is really special and I cannot put a finger on exactly why. It is slow paced and deliberate. It is told from the perspective of 13 year old Frank and thus has very simple dialogue between characters. What I took away is a profound sense of realism in Frank's world. This book really brought to life a small town in 1961 Minnesota and a summer full of life and death. That being said I am certain of one thing. This author has now done something twice that has left me stunned and shaking my head asking "why?" He developed a wonderfully rich female character Molly in "Iron Lake" and also one here in "Ordinary Grace" (I won't give it away) only to have them ripped away from me. Didn't like that then and I'm glad I got to get a jab in now because I have been holding it in since that first book. Bring back Molly!!
