I hate the MC with unimaginable passion. He is an idiot and completely incompetent. He literally said he was going to kill the villian and then proceeded to threaten her 3 time and literally gave up every chase to kill her only to her his ass kicked after ever threat. I was rooting for the villian to kill him just to end his stupidity and incompetence.

Also it fells like the auther spend touch time explain everything that's happening but doesn't understand scale. Everything is either near instantly happening or the MC is standing there with his thumb up his but for minute on end patiently waiting for the villian to finish what they are doing be for trying to stop them. I get the the auther is going for more comedic action scenes like the Pirates of the Caribbean movies but they come off poorly paced and infuriating, at least to me.

Idiotic and chauvinistic MC

MC is jus a chauvinistic idiot that doesn't Listen to anyone and just plows ahead. The author literally uses the power of luck as a reason as plot armor. We all know that plot armor is a given in these types of stories but it annoys me that the only reason this guy gets anywhere is luck and being a slightly better guy the everyone else.

The Swingshift series started out as one of my favorite series by this auther but this third book became unlistenable to me. what was once a interest paranormal mystery and investigation series became this weird incelly fantasy were the MC could do no wrong just because he was a nice guy. including violating a woman's mind and her being okay with it and just falling in love with him dispite it.

It also has the same problem all Arand/Darren trilogies have, it losses focus on what made the first two good and instead builds up some big universal crossover. It makes the book's story feel lackluster and goes from a self-contained story to just another building block for something else. This is a pity since I loved the first two books so much. If they are going to continue to sacrifice the last books in their series to build a multiverse then this mega-crossover event (whenever it comes out) better be something great at this point.

Plus, I am sick and tired of the constant lovey-dovey and sexual talk that has become the character interactions. I have been finding myself skipping character scenes just to get back to the plot similar to how I skip sex scenes in most of these types of stories. With as much focus as Arand gives to it, I am starting to wonder why he just doesn't include the sex scenes link Darren's books. It seems clear that Arand wants to at this point. Also, I get it that everyone is okay with this harem relationship thing you don't need to continually verify it with every conversation the MC has with a woman. It's a male power fantasy so I think you can drop it after the first confirmation.

This book has an interesting premise and the narrator was fine, but I just felt this book was a slog to get through. Often times the character would learn something in one chapter and a few chapters later he would learn about it agian and claim it was the first time he heard about it. This kind of writing and the narrator's lack of character range made this a frustrating experience.

There is a lack of character development (or characterization in general) for all the side characters and when there is a potentially interesting one they are abandoned for the next lack luster character.

Brandon Sanderson continues to prove why he is my favorite fantasy author. He crafted a beautiful story that combines a post apocalyptic world with fantasy, revolution and a heist. I love the magic systems that he creates, they have clear limits and rules that makes magic more then the deus ex plot device that many fantasy authors make it to be. I can wait to start the next book.

Be warned if you do not like make power fantasy stories, fairly stereotypical characters or women obsessed with a guy for his manliness, then this is not the story for you.

This series is without a doubt a Male power fantasy on par with most anime harems. An average, nerdy guy gains a great power that sets him apart even from those with similar powers and a group of very attractive women flock to him for no real reason other then he's manly now. He's smarter then his opponents and everything comes to him easily. The main character isn't exactly a deep character, hell he even understands magic in a week better then those that practiced it their whole lives. All the cliches are there but damned if I don't like that fluff every now and then. It was enjoyable if not predictable but at least it kept me engaged through the whole thing. I will continue this series to see where it goes and to see who else is added to his harem.

I listened to this book to see if I wanted to see the movie. Now that I finished I have to see how they make this book into a movie, the licensing fees alone have to take up most of the budget. Anyways great boom and I loved every minute of it.
