Enchanting Voice: Beautiful, Deep, and Heartfelt!
Revisado: 03-17-24
I love this audiobook. I bought it while in the middle of reading the paperback. The poetry is deep and beautiful, and Julia's voice is so nice to listen to. Her voice is very soothing, and puts the perfect tone to the book, which is a work of art in itself. I could listen to this book over and over. She doesn’t just simply read a book, but she puts her heart into every word. Whether the words require a somber or joyful tone, the voice matches it perfectly without over emphasizing. The performance is perfect and can only come from someone who has been through it.
Regarding the content of the book, it’s a collection of poetry and prose focusing on all of the different emotions that we go through in life, not just in grief. It starts out with words attuned to what one goes through while in different stages of grief, and it really goes into it, in super depth and with a clarity of someone who seems to have definitely been there. Poetry with titles like, “Once a Dream Was Mine,” and, “How Much Pain Can One Heart Take?”, can give you an idea of what’s in store.
“The heart, a field of love and pain,
a scene of loss and love again…
Does it swell with the sorrow it has known,
or is it softened by love that’s grown?”
The book moves through many other waves of emotions like anger, fear, and regret. One amazing poem called, “Regret, You Silent Sculptor” goes...
“And so, we dance, a dance, eternal,
two sculptors in a play,
one shaping what has been,
one forming the new day”
But it’s not just all dark and dreary, just as grief isn’t just dark and dreary. There are poems and words of joy, love, gardening, and the insights of animals and how they grieve and offer us relief from our grief. There is so much here that I can read it over and over again and still discover things I had missed before.
These poems are not just words, they really dive right into the heart and can cause the hairs to stand up on the back of my neck.
I love that there are slight instances of music in the background occasionally, colored throughout in a very subtle and tasteful way. The page turning sounds between sections make it feel as though she is right there reading this to you in person.
This is an audiobook that is the perfect companion to a book that is the perfect companion to life. I highly recommend this, not just for the soothing voice and brilliant performance, but for the words that offer so much more.
