Historia
Kai of the Sorcerer's Tower was one of the last Mages left, barely surviving in a world contaminated with dead mana and ruled by creatures of the dark. To save his world and fulfill his master's last wish, he puts himself through a forbidden ritual, risking his soul being ripped into pieces to make his way into the past, to a golden era with abundant mana. But things go wrong. He overshoots and finds himself in an ancient time thousands of years earlier, within the body of a young lord named Arzan.

A Regressor without a Plan
Revisado: 05-03-25
This MC is the worst kind, an idiot.
The world is ending, all his allies are presumably dead, and he creates a ritual to return to the past to save the world from this apocalypse.
Except once in the past, he has absolutely no plan. Just vibes. Didn’t learn anything about modern enchanting or magitechnology he could “invent”. Just returned to the past and decided to take his time relearning his magic.
The whole point of this genre is the MC having knowledge far beyond the current time and the MC just does not. Do not recommend

It’s Really Depressing
Revisado: 04-25-25
This was a good fantasy story, not so sure about the romance part. The vast majority of the book is spent with the characters on the run, filthy from sleeping in the woods, or captured. There is a moment or two of longing but it doesn’t seem nearly enough for just how miserable the story is. At multiple points, the characters come close to starvation.
I’m an hour away from finishing but don’t think I’ll bother with the next in the series. I prefer my fantasy a tad less existentially dire

Kidnapped and presumed dead, Kizu returns ten years later – just in time to enroll at an elite magical academy. His education under the witch who kidnapped and raised him was… unorthodox. Now, three years behind every other student his age, he is ranked as the overall worst student at Shinzou Academy. But Kizu is determined to quickly change that. Not just for the sake of mastering long-denied schools of magic, but to investigate his older sister’s disappearance.

MC Might be Brain Damaged - DNF
Revisado: 04-23-25
I liked the story setting and the plot was fair as well. But the MC is too dumb to live, is the nicest way I can put it. A critical lack of common sense or the ability to to “read the room”. At every point where he has a choice to make, he will choose the stupidest option without any thought to the immediate consequence. Like when he was rescued from the witch who kidnapped him, and made a move to tackle his saviors so she could escape.
Fortunately for him, they teleported her away before he could. But he will go on and continue to be the dumbest kid at magic school and I just can’t handle anymore

I left my family and tiny Texas hometown 15 years ago to escape small-town gossips and to give my mom and sister the chance at a better life. But when a phone call from an attorney back home informs me that my sister passed away, leaving me custody of her newborn baby, I'm shocked out of the steady life I've built for myself running a tattoo shop in San Francisco. The thing is: I don't do babies. And I don't do small towns. Or commitment. And I especially don't do family.

If Abusive and Dense is Romantic
Revisado: 03-27-25
One MC straight up doesn’t take no for an answer and physically forces himself into the home of the other. And it’s supposed to be romantic
And the other refuses to see the fact that he could race his niece with the dense guy, if he’d just let it happen.
I absolutely hate when tension is created by making the characters dumber than a bag of rocks so one star it gets

Reborn on Gryndor with the mythical trait [Divine Witness], Ajax swears to live a life of no regrets. This time, he will seize every opportunity, fight every monster, and plunder every treasure as he enjoys life to the fullest. If only it were that easy. Humans are considered one of the weakest sentient races, confined to their patch of land but that hasn't changed their nature as they fight amongst themselves forced to split their sources of power instead of unite for the greater whole

The Entire Star Sheet Every Time Gets LONG
Revisado: 03-26-25
I’m using one such stat break to write this review. I like the book and the story enough, wish there was more detail on certain parts like his learning magic. But one thing I wasn’t prepared for was how long the stat read outs would get
In most books, the stat readouts are just for their characteristics and any changes or new skills. In this book, every time he goes to check his stats after a change, you’ll hear about his running skill, drawing skill, sprinting skill, farming skill, etc. The MC has the ability to learn anything so after about 5 hours that means a LOT of skills to list out
I have about 7 hours left and it takes over 6 minutes to get through. Hence me taking this break to write this. Even now, it’s not even to the part of the stat sheet for changes to his stats or new skills
To the author, for the love of all that is good, cut this crap out. Nobody wants a full stat sheet every time he learns a new skill. It’s utterly ridiculous

Every living creature wants to survive. For young Mason, his experiences of being beaten, bullied, and abandoned by his own family encouraged him to do just that. But after being caught up in a terrorist attack during a college tour, he finds himself in an unfamiliar place, surrounded by a new foe—the supernatural—and not even death can stop his primal instinct to live.

I Wish I’d Seen Other Low Reviews
Revisado: 03-22-25
Despite being a college age reincarnated human from modern earth, the MC acts and thinks like the six year old child he is in the new world. Utterly naive and gullible, desperate for his father’s approval. Displays no survival instinct.
Almost worse, all the adults are either cartoonishly evil, cartoonishly stupid, or both. Tell a lie and it’s believed by commoners or kings. It utterly strains credulity that a person can shake hands with another person and not notice them suddenly pull a great sword to block arrows from a sneak attack.
All that to say, save your money and your credit. I wish I did.

Historia
Bernt might have graduated from the Mage Academy, but not everyone has the money or connections to launch a prestigious career as a mage. Bernt finds himself working in the city sewers as an Underkeeper among the other rejects of Halfbridge's magery. He may spend more time unclogging pipes than fighting monsters, but hey, it's a stable job, and that's what counts. With the help of his unregistered soul-devouring demonic familiar, he'll save enough to launch his career as an adventurer—just as soon as he can afford some proper gear.

The Main Character is a Dolt
Revisado: 03-21-25
Despite the main character having a street savvy born of being orphaned at a young age, and having the talent to get scouted by the mage academy, he displays NONE of the intelligence associated with that backstory.
Despite his desire to be an adventurer, he remains willfully ignorant about everything related to the occupation, as well as ignorant to methods for his personal advancement, knowledge of familiar bonds, demons. Even as the book is ending he still acts like he has no idea why people are nervous about his demon, despite all the explanations we’ve been given through the book.
The saving grace of the book is actually the supporting cast of characters. They’re intelligent, noble, gracious, generous, despite the MC lacking any common sense
The worst sin to me is the lack of advancement through this book. For a would be adventurer mage, there’s no excuse for him to have learned not even a single new combat spell

Strong Start, Very Weak Finish
Revisado: 01-21-25
I really enjoy the super powers genre so I was very much looking forward to this book. The MC is setup as an unpowered mastermind and spends the first half of the book acting like it. But, for some reason, he just crashes out harder and harder once he gets to the academy. It’s like his common sense goes out the window. Made it really hard to listen when he stopped being able to think past the current moment, when thinking is all his character can do.
And Luke Daniels narrating is just awful. I don’t understand why he insists on reeing and injecting so much into random sentences, it was a struggle to get through because it kept knocking me out of the story and forcing me to remember the context (talking in a manic high pitch while characters are whispering for secrecy for example). Whenever I see he’s narrating something, I always hesitate.
And after all that, the book ends without revealing even a single mystery. Would not recommend, and I’m not getting the next book

Well Worth The Wait
Revisado: 09-06-24
I was worried the author wasn’t coming back to this series and I’m so glad he did, it was so worth it. And with nearly 30 hours, I think it makes up for the time it took to come out.
Simply put, if you loved the series so far, you’ll love this book too.

In just seven days, the world will crumble. The System's Descent will usher in a new era of chaos: wild animals mutating, monstrous creatures emerging, and the cessation of modern technology. Humanity will be left defenseless. Drew Wright knows none of this. At least not until he is rudely ripped from his bed and thrust into a white room to undergo a taser-happy ‘Tutorial’. Turns out, he is one of a thousand randomly selected people to be forewarned of the approaching apocalypse. Now, he faces the delightful task of convincing his wife and mother of the devastation hurtling towards them.

Deeply Irrational Main Character
Revisado: 04-18-24
I enjoy litRPG. So when I'm reading a book in that genre, I expect litRPG elements as well as consistent characters. I don't *need* a main character to be a genius but I do expect consistency with what the author includes as their motivation.
This MC is not consistent, and it makes the book absolutely frustrating to read. From stat points to spells and skills chosen, the MC just refuses to be consistent with his own stated motivations. Minor spoilers ahead.
The first spell the MC chooses is Mage Armor. His reasoning is that with monsters around he needs a fool proof way to defend himself. He spends more time thinking about that spell choice than the other two he got initially. Despite that, he never ONCE casts the spell in battle. Not even once.
Despite the author writing that MC has a higher than average intelligence and wisdom, the MC is an absolute idiot with his choices throughout the book.
After a few battles, when faced with skill choices, rather than choose a spell to enhance his chosen spellcaster class, he chooses Dodge. Because he got hit in the last battle he didn't use Mage Armor in and wanted to avoid damage. He also, at the same time, decided to wear heavy plate armor.
The straw that broke the camel's back for me was when the MC, after suffering a direct attack to the chest, thinks to himself he would be dead if not for the heavy plate. Having to hear that, while knowing he had a spell that would have negated the damage, as well as a skill to Dodge that did *nothing* to help him avoid a direct hit, is the reason I'm hitting this book with a 1 star. To save readers like me enduring a similar frustration.
