Tasty explains the scientific research taking place on multiple fronts: how genes shape our tastes, how the mind assembles flavors from the five senses and signals from the body's metabolic systems, why something disgusts one person and delights another, and what today's obsessions with extreme tastes tell us about the brain.

Fascinating!
Revisado: 01-06-25
It is crazy the many intricate details we do not realize go on in even something as simple sounding as taste. This book was fascinating and definitely a very nerdy and interesting read!

I first listened this book as a senior in high school and it has been such a good reminder to be "rejection proof" definitely helped shape a lot of my perspective on business and life in general.

Historia
In 2017, Leonardo da Vinci’s small oil painting the Salvator Mundi was sold at auction. In the words of its discoverer, the image of Christ as savior of the world is “the rarest thing on the planet.” Its $450 million sale price also makes it the world’s most expensive painting. For two centuries, art dealers had searched in vain for the Holy Grail of art history: a portrait of Christ as the Salvator Mundi by Leonardo da Vinci. Many similar paintings of greatly varying quality had been executed by Leonardo’s assistants in the early 16th century.

Loved it!
Revisado: 01-06-25
This book was a random spur-of-the-moment selection that I just happened to come across on Audible and I loved it! It was a little dry at first, but I got sucked into the story of Da Vinci and his painting and am writing this review nearly a year later still thinking about the story from time to time.

Historia
Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television "family."

Historia
As high achievers, we’ve been conditioned to believe that the path to success is paved with relentless work. That if we want to overachieve, we have to overexert, overthink, and overdo. That if we aren’t perpetually exhausted, we’re not doing enough. But lately, working hard is more exhausting than ever. And the more depleted we get, the more effort it takes to make progress. Stuck in an endless loop of “Zoom, eat, sleep, repeat”, we’re often working twice as hard to achieve half as much.

This is a great book written by an excellent Christian man that teaches the principles of saving time and exertion in our lives. His perspective is unique and I will definitely read again. I love that he has section reviews after each part so that you can really remember what points he is making. Great book!

I love studying the brain and how we make decisions. This book describes the differences between men and women's brains and how all of that plays into a healthy marriage, and ultimately God's plan. Great book, I would highly recommend reading before getting married.
