Historia
Deborah and Simon St. James have taken a holiday in the winter landscape of Lancastershire, hoping to heal the growing rift in their marriage. But in the barren countryside awaits bleak news: The vicar of Wimslough, the man they had come to see, is dead - a victim of accidental poisoning. Unsatisfied with the inquest ruling and unsettled by the close association between the investigating constable and the woman who served the deadly meal, Simon calls in his old friend Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley. Together they uncover dark, complex relationships in this rural village.

Disappointing
Revisado: 10-31-24
Well, I love this authors work generally, this book was disappointing because you never ended up really caring about any of the characters. There was violence and deeply revealing character flaws, which makes her dynamic character development. she made her point about motherhood and sexism and the sources of violence. Good but ultimately I'm really sorry I started this book. Great performance intriguing.

Brilliant writing! Spot on performance!
Revisado: 03-22-24
I'd love the intricate storyline and the characters that are so well drawn. What I didn't like that there's another book by Adrian McKinty for me to start immediately. subtle references to music and literature, that I love, such a rich portrayal of modern Ireland and that lovely introduction to the travelers. Perfect just perfect.

When a British police procedural can be as much about love and loss as the thrill of the Chase, you know it's a great one.

Jo told him the phone call had been about a woman who wanted to have her husband declared dead. Smith thought for a moment and then said, 'Hmm. There must be a few million women in this country who feel like that. I take it her husband's been missing for a while and she's decided it's time to move on. In the absence of a body, which is always a nuisance, she wants Diver and Diver to confirm there's no proof he's alive. And I've told Jason a dozen times I'm not getting involved in anything matrimonial. I have enough trouble sorting out my own relationships.'

Historia
When 14-year-old Zoe Johnson doesn't come home on a Monday night in early December, the alarm bells in Kings Lake Central police station do not ring straight away - after all, she's from the Dockmills, one of the toughest estates in the town. But for Detective Sergeant DC Smith, due to retire in just three weeks' time, there are some strange echoes of the case that has haunted him for the past 13 years. Maybe it's simply his over-developed sense of irony, or maybe, in his final days as a police officer, Smith must look once more into the eyes of a serial killer.

Wow, I have loved everyone of the books of this series. This one truly stands out: intricate plot, good laughs, and very thought-provoking conclusion. I adore how well drawn each and every character was created and then narrated. Well done..
