Historia
In the fourth book of the series, James McGill is up for promotion. Not everyone is happy about that, and McGill must prove he's worth his stripes. Deployed to a strange alien planet outside the boundaries of the Galactic Empire, he's caught up in warfare and political intrigue. Earth expands, the Cephalopod Kingdom launches ships to stop us, and a grand conspiracy emerges among the upper ranks of the Hegemony military.

The story is getting much better.
Revisado: 06-09-23
At first I was a bit put off by the whole undying schtick, but as the story developed, the writer put less and less emphasis on it and introduced (in the previous book) a top-rate antagonist that is making the story much better. As long as the author doesn't run out of good plots, I am inclined to finish the series.

Historia
The Galactics arrived with their Battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined a vast Empire that spanned the Milky Way. Our only worthwhile trade goods are our infamous mercenary legions, elite troops we sell to the highest alien bidder. In the third book in the series, James McGill is deployed on another alien world. His third interstellar tour is different in every way. Rather than meeting up with a primitive society, this time he’s headed to an advanced world.

Better than expected
Revisado: 05-10-23
After the first two novels of this series, I was a bit reluctant to go on. But there was something about the general backstory of the whole series that appealed to me. I suppose it was the way the author takes the gaming routine of respawning after a death and worked it into his story that urged me to stick to the series to see where it would go.
As this third book came to a close, I felt that the writer was really starting to get his game together and the revival theme (which had been something like a bad joke) was actually becoming more than just a plot device to get around the protagonists' problems.
Having grown up on the outskirts of the Okefenokee, the author's use of familiar places like Waycross had its own affect on me deciding to follow the story beyond the second book, and now that the main protagonist is becoming a bit more fleshed out, I am finding that I like this story more and more.
In essence, what started out as a curious approach to putting video games into novels and what I felt was originally a weak plot (in the first book) has gotten better with each installment. I foresee me sticking with this series to the end.

It took a bit to regress to back away from what I had come to expect in the TFS series. But once I made the adjustment. the story started to really settle in. My only real complaint is that the story cuts off and leaves us hanging and having to wait for the next installment of the story. If's I'd known that up front, I might have postponed getting this until the next of the series comes out.

Historia
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

A good start to a promising series.
Revisado: 03-05-23
I felt that the story was actually quite good even though I am not a fan of tales that are told from a first-person perspective.
The whole undying angle is an interesting take on things. I just hope that as the grand story progresses that it doesn't turn out to be a bad plot device that is used to resolve conflict at every corner.
In summary, I look forward to reading the next installment, and that should say something.

This continuation of this saga picks up where the previous novel left off and continues to move at a fast pace. It's well written and entertaining in a style that reminds me of Tom Clancy but with a Gene Roddenberry flavor.

Join the Army and See the Universe. That is the motto of The Third Space War, also known as The First Interstellar War, but most commonly as The Bug War. In one of Robert Heinlein's most controversial best sellers, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the universe - and into battle with the Terrain Mobile Infantry against mankind's most alarming enemy.

Good story but room for improvement
Revisado: 12-08-18
Having seen the movie, I was pleasantly surprised that the book went into a great deal more background and detail.
It would seem that this book was one of Heinlein's outlets that allowed him to tell a fairly decent story and at the same time rant about what is wrong with the world today and his opinion on how we can improve our society. In many respects, I agree.
The performer had an excellent ability to mimic various accents and dialects, but his reading was very staccato with prolonged breaks between sentences. As a result, the narrative didn't flow very well. Otherwise it was a good buy.

I'm sure Nolan got many questions in his career about the society in which Logan's Run took place. It seems that Logan's Search was an opportunity for the author to explore that world a little more. It was fairly done.

Acceptable but room for improvement
Revisado: 10-06-18
This volume of a truly great series is probably tied with Green Mother as my least favorite of the series.
At times it seemed as though the author was meandering about with no clear direction to go with the story. Having read much of his work, it is fairly evident when he is off his game.
That being said, the book does fill in its corner of the series and when rolled in together with the other associated installments, it becomes quite palatable.

When life seems pointless to Norton, he accepts the position of Incarnation of Time. With the other incarnations - Death, Fate, War, and Nature - distracting him, Satan springs a cunning trap. Bearing an Hourglass is a fascinating, richly imagined tale that reaches beyond genre conventions. Science-fiction/fantasy legend Piers Anthony combines a gripping plot with a serious and thought-providing study of good and evil.

Good story but room for improvement
Revisado: 10-06-18
The second in the series, Anthony really does a good job on this chapter, but the multiple side plots make it seem as though he was struggling to fill in pages. They don't really detract from the main plot, but they weren't really necessary either.
