Amazing!
Revisado: 07-09-24
Started listening when it was released this morning, and soon had to choose between Earthlight or sleep. Sleep lost. Thankfully this title's one and only flaw of being three hours in length is appreciated, or I'd probably have taken it with me and still be listening this afternoon. Production is excellent and the full cast gave an extraordinary performance. To summarize in a few words - think of the experimental fighters as an early version of a B5 Starfury.

Join the Army and See the Universe. That is the motto of The Third Space War, also known as The First Interstellar War, but most commonly as The Bug War. In one of Robert Heinlein's most controversial best sellers, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the universe - and into battle with the Terrain Mobile Infantry against mankind's most alarming enemy.

Amazing story. Parts of narration sound phoned in.
Revisado: 04-27-24
Story is first rate, what else can be said? Unfortunately, perhaps there needed to be re-recordings of certain segments, with those portions being of lower quality than the original narration. Looking forward to the (at the moment) seven-month-delayed rendition by R.C. Bray (B0B322ZNRJ), but till then am glad this current version exists.

Slow start, but gets better!
Revisado: 10-24-23
And there appear to be other releases in the series, so if one were looking to purchase EVERYTHING in October 2023, Astral Prime and Mercy For Hire exist as complete collections while Mirth & Mayhem and Passage of Time would require another ten credits at least. Perhaps these last two will be released as complete collections or mission packs in 2024?

Down there, beyond the deepest caves, below the crust and the mantle, there is another world. An old woman locked away in a Russian asylum has a secret - knowledge of a 500-year-old manuscript written by a long-dead alchemist that will show a passage to the mythical centre of the Earth. She knows it’s real because 50 years ago, she and a team travelled there. And only she made it back. Today, caving specialist Mike Monroe leads a crew into the world’s deepest cave in the former Soviet Union.

Great 1st title in a trilogy - increase speed 1.25
Revisado: 07-12-23
Purchased this on sale, and while it was a little dull at times, liked it enough to get the rest of the trilogy with Credits. HOWever, the narration could have been better since it is delivered in a slooooooow, monotone style. Used the Audible Player Magic Speed Control to increase playback to 1.25x normal, and the slightly faster narration made all the difference.

Great story. Great series. Decaf for the Narrator?
Revisado: 11-04-22
Was lucky to discover this series during an Audible sale where I acquired the first four releases and pre-ordered the fifth. Hoping the series continues as there are always Credits to use! Have listened to three of the five releases to date, and while the mysteries have a 21st century slant, it is no different than films of Holmes and Watson in WWII - stories written with a different perspective yet keeping to the framework of the original material. Only downside is the accelerated style of narration seems out of place since I am more familiar with the voices of Christopher Lee, Basil Rathbone, and Jeremy Brett. Perhaps Decaf should be the only option available at the recording studio? However it is possible to adjust the Player Speed, so I dialed it down to 75% and all is well.

Classic Holmes/Watson in 2022. Plus Narrator Fix!
Revisado: 11-04-22
This author combines a present day worldview with a Victorian setting, and while this may seem anachronistic, it actually works since Holmes was always ahead of his time. That being said (spoilers) there are no Big Reveals since it's pretty easy to guess where the missing person is and the motivations behind the attempted kidnapping. Holmes must go beyond merely solving mysteries to finding solutions, and if his solutions aren't by-the-book... he has often said that he is not the police. .|.|. Narrator Fix: As others have noted for the earlier releases in this series, would prefer a different narrator, or at least one that isn't rushing to cram seven hours of text into a five hour audiobook, so went with the old standby of Modifying the Player Speed. Usually use it to speed up sloooow narrations, but in this case dropped the speed to 75% to change the inahurrytogetthewordsout narration to something more worthy of a Conan Doyle mystery. .|.|. Did try leaving a review on the Amazon side, but as 99% of Audible purchases are treated by Amazon as Non-Verified, best to NOT do this since too many Non-Verifieds could lock down your account. PS: Would also be nice if Audible reviews weren't smushed into One Giant Paragraph (hint hint).

Historia
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

Yui would have flown an eagle to Mount Doom.
Revisado: 05-23-22
Very interesting (and funny) take on prophetic fantasy heroes and tradition, or rather throwing tradition out the window in favor of results. Think of poor Frodo hoofing it through enemy territory on his epic journey to destroy the One Ring, the amazing adventures he had, and all the people who died waiting for him to hurry up and get there. Yui from Demon King has less patience for such a trek and would have ridden one of those ever-present eagles to Mount Doom, dropped in the Ring, and been back in Rivendell while the Fellowship were still packing for the trip.

Two Key to Time Stories for the price of one.
Revisado: 05-05-22
One can purchase these titles as they are released at full price, or wait a few years for a Collection and get five Doctor Who stories for one credit. Already have some of these on CD, but as I've purchased three of the Key to Time stories via Audible, might as well get the other two and have the complete set in my Audible Library. Both the Ribos Operation and Androids of Tara are available as individual purchases, but as it has been a few years they now exist in a Collection which allows me to buy both for a single credit with three other titles as a bonus. FYI: There was at one point a 2022 release scheduled for the Androids of Tara that seemed identical to the 2012 version, but after a few weeks it vanished from the Pre-Order lists.

Revisado: 04-30-22
Could have sworn this was on sale at some point (Daily Deal?) but missed it the last go-round. Audible had a Series Sale in April 2022 where this was available for $6, and figured it was worth a try. It's basically 100+ trivia segments of a few minutes each, and it's both interesting and funny. Thought about getting the first two releases in the series as they were also on sale, but the audio quality for the first two ranged from Recorded In A Closet to Narrator Has A Cold.

Landover was a genuine magic kingdom, with fairy folk and wizardry, just as the advertisement has promised. But after he purchased it, Ben Holiday learned that there were a few details the ad had failed to mention. The kingdom was in ruin. The Barons refused to recognize a king, and the peasants were without hope. A dragon was laying waste the countryside, while an evil witch plotted to destroy everything.

Was planning to buy the series when it was listed on Audible a few years ago, but wasn't fast enough and the series was removed. Now in 2022 all six titles are back and re-recorded with another narrator. Having learned my lesson last time, pre-ordered all six and all is well!!
