Historia
March 11, 2004. The Madrid train bombings kill 193 innocent civilians. What the terrorists didn’t know was on that fateful day they also succeeded in creating their worst nightmare. No one knew who he was, what he looked like, where he came from, nor who he worked for. He was a sniper who could take a target out from 800 yards to a mile. He could kill with a long gun, short gun, or no gun. He was lethal with edged weapons, explosives, poisons, or no weapon at all. Targets could be executed from afar or die with his breath in their faces.

It's okay.....
Revisado: 04-26-25
It's good enough that I will read the next one but if the next one doesn't pick up the pace a bit it will be the last one I will read/listen to. It really drug along and left me with way too many questions. I seriously hated the ending.....it's like the end of a paragraph. No resolution. No finality. It also doesn't explain how he ends up with the dog which I kind of thought was the point to the book. Narrator is okay but not really the right person for this character. There is potential but then it kind of fizzled.

Enjoyable but the writing needs a little work
Revisado: 04-25-25
I enjoyed the story and it kept me going but I did get a little irritated with the unnecessary detail..."we walked to the car and unlocked the door with the fob and opened the door. Then we got in and put on our seatbelts and started the car and drove away". It's almost like the author was trying to add pages. It wasn't necessary for the story in any way and really didn't help the flow. I will read more for sure, however.

Spenser is forced by loyalty into an alien world where violence is a way of lie and outsiders enter at a lethal risk. When Spenser's cohort Hawk is hired by the tenants of a gang-plagued Boston housing project known as "Double Deuce," he enlists his friend's aid. A friend's girl and her infant daughter have been gunned down. Though the act at first appears to be an accidental drive-by shooting, it soon becomes clear that it was premeditated murder.

LOVE these books....DESPISE this narrator
Revisado: 04-01-25
I'm hooked on these books. I love the quick wit and the back and forth conversations. Spenser is a no bull kind of person that calls things the way he sees them and the books flow and roll very well. Even though these books were written 40 or more years ago they are still appealing. I have bought every one and listened to them and thoroughly enjoyed them until I started listening to David Dukes. By far the worst narrator ever. He makes the characters sound so ridiculous. I cannot believe how he makes Hawk sound and the female characters make me cringe. I'll keep listening until I get through the books that he reads but I just want to know WHY??? Why would you pick someone that is this bad to read these books?

Jack Reacher wakes up alone, in the dark, handcuffed to a makeshift bed. His right arm has suffered some major damage. His few possessions are gone. He has no memory of getting there. The last thing Reacher can recall is the car he hitched a ride in getting run off the road. The driver was killed. His captors assume Reacher was the driver’s accomplice and patch up his wounds as they plan to make him talk. A plan that will backfire spectacularly . . .

Please find a new reader!!
Revisado: 11-20-24
I am absolutely hooked on Jack Reacher and I have read every one of the books multiple times. Dick Hill was THE voice of Jack Reacher and I have tried and tried to make the transition to Scott Brick and I just can't do it. Mr Brick is a great reader - just not for this genre. He makes Reacher sound so whiny and not like the calm and quiet deadly machine we all know and love. This particular book is convoluted and there are just a few things that are way too convenient to be believable (a lot of them relate to the broken arm that gets forgotten about 1/4 of the way through the book). Not my favorite and will make me think twice before I get the next one.

Terrible narration...terrible abridgement
Revisado: 03-11-24
I THINK the story might be good but the abridgement cuts out so much it's hard to tell. Either way, the narration is just awful. How can someone that can act as well as Beau Bridges not act his way through a story?? The voices are bad and every time the action picks up he speeds up the narration. He makes Bob Lee sound like a stupid southern hick. It really, really wasn't worth the money or the time. Terribly disappointed.

Sweet, fun, relaxing
Revisado: 01-26-24
Many of the reviews said it was laugh out loud funny. I did not find this to be the case, but I did find it to be some very enjoyable, light entertainment. Doesn't take a lot of brain power and certainly won't leave you on the edge of your seat but it was very sweet and the main characters are very likeable. It's not a waste of time or credits though I probably won't read the next in the series.

Really have to stretch your imagination here
Revisado: 01-26-24
The book is okay but you get a huge dose of "way too far fetched to believe". I bought the book because I really enjoy the narrator and thought the storyline was worth a try. Plus it's a series and I'm always looking for things to read. Sadly, the author tends to think his readers have little or no common sense and throws in some things that just don't fly....for example (speaking of flying)....they land a Cessna on the beach. THEN...when the tide comes in they get the towbar out of the cargo hold (which is not a typical item carried around in your airplane) and they freaking tow the plane out of the water! Right. Soft sand. Heavy airplane. A man and a woman just wheel that little rascal onto some harder sand. And if that wasn't enough, they hop in it and take off again! Because, you know, all Florida beaches are straight and flat enough to function as a runway. Better yet was when she manages to get a gun out of a holster (that's laying on the ground) with her hands cuffed behind her back and shoots the bad guy not once but twice with both shots being dead on. I also thought this particular incident was a little more graphic and detailed than was necessary. All in all, I finished it and thought it was okay but definitely will not move on to any more Stuart Woods books.

Walt thinks he might find the answers he's looking for among the ruins of an old Native American boarding school—an institution designed to strip Native children of their heritage. He has been haunted by the image of the Fort Pratt Industrial Indian Training School ever since he first saw a faded postcard picturing a hundred boys in uniform, in front of a large, ominous building—a postcard that was given to him by Jimmy Lane, the father of Jeanie One Moon.

Walt, where did you go??
Revisado: 12-28-23
I love this series....it's one of the best that I have ever listened to and I tell everyone I know about them. This particular book? AWFUL. I can rehash all of the other reviews but they all say it very nicely (except for the one that said it was the best book they had ever listened to. I am wondering where they came from, actually, since they noted that this was the first book written in 1st person. ALL of the WL books are in 1st person). George Guidall does his normal amazing job but the story itself was just a struggle. I'm trying to get through it since usually the stories build on themselves but I'm not sure I'll make it.

Every bit as wonderful as the TV series!
Revisado: 11-21-23
This was outstanding in every way....the narrator is the absolute perfect voice of Walt Longmire and does a great job of all of the other characters. The book itself is even better.....witty, sharp, fast paced with a great story line and equally wonderful dialogue. I loved this book and I'm thrilled that I have 20+ more to go!
