So glad I ignored the cover and gave this book a listen. This is neither too sweet nor too sad. The narrators made the book come alive for me!

This story gripped me from the very beginning. I love a good marital strife tale and this delivered in spades!

I’m sorry to agree with many of the reviewers. Ms. Rennie’s performance was underwhelming. Her voice sounds MUCH more mature to me than the character she portrayed in this story. Some scenes were almost unbearable to listen to because of that mismatch. Additionally, her range seems limited- Chopper sounded 12 years old. Lily sounded 15, especially when she whines out Brut’s name. Finally, there’s a lot of inner dialog and it was difficult to discern if what Ms Rennie was saying was that or actual speech with or to another character.

Tim Paige, on the other hand, I enjoyed.

I was glued to my phone for most of the weekend. Ms. Kepnes has a keen eye for the foibles and shortcomings of our digital culture; Joe's stream of consciousness complaints of said foibles made me feel connected to him in a way that makes me feel slightly soiled right now. His exploitation of readily available and accessible digital platforms should chill us all to our bones.
The pacing was perfect, the portrayal of these Millennials spot on, and the dialog (inner and spoken) was hilarious. Who knew a serial killer could be so endearing?

And I wish Santino Fontana would read to me every day.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator doesn't seem to have a lot of range-most female characters sounded alike, as did the male characters. Foster's rhythm was off to my ears and the cadence felt choppy and stilted. If I hadn't been drawn to the story, I wouldn't have finished it.

Fantastic narration. I felt immersed in 1970's New York. Lovely break from more predictable, virtually indestructible alpha vampires found in paranormal romance novels. Joey Peacock might be among the most pedestrian vampire around!

What disappointed you about The Last Werewolf?

I did not finish listening to this book. I didn't find my self connecting to the main character (or any others) after listening for a few hours. I found the very explicit sex scenes depressing and bleak, as I suppose they were meant to be. I like dark, dystopic stories, but this one lost me.

My brief listen illustrated for me how very vital the performance is to my listening pleasure; I did not care for Mr. Sach's interpretation of this book. Because I am relatively new to audio books, I appreciated the lesson and now take care to listen to a sample prior to a purchase.

What made the experience of listening to Hounded the most enjoyable?

Interesting characters, frequent action and adequate history combine to pull the reader/listener in. The current-day Arizona setting is novel for fantasy. Hearne is really funny, but he can also capture a poignant moment, lending the book a touch of gravity that I wasn't expecting and found pleasantly surprising. I devoured this one and went straight through the remaining 3!
