Historia
Frankie O’Neill and Anne Ryan would seem to have nothing in common. Frankie is a lonely ornithologist struggling to salvage her dissertation on the spotted owl following a rift with her advisor. Anne is an Irish musician far from home and family, raising her five-year-old son, Aiden, who refuses to speak. When Frankie finds an injured baby crow in the forest, little does she realize that the charming bird will bring all three lost souls—Frankie, Anne, and Aiden—together on a journey toward hope, healing, and rediscovering joy.

Not Well Written
Revisado: 09-19-24
Such a great concept! I loved so many of the details about birds and friendship, grief and neurodivergence but the writing fell short. It was an ending fit for Disney mixed with the Hallmark Movie channel on Christmas. The writing felt like it was from a mass produced cheap paperback for people who don't read often. I wanted to like it...and at some points there were some gems but overall it feels like the writer forced this one without really feeling its depts or allowing the characters to become fully alive to her. I wouldn't recommend it.

In this groundbreaking book, therapist Resmaa Menakem examines the damage caused by racism in America from the perspective of trauma and body-centered psychology. My Grandmother's Hands is a call to action for all of us to recognize that racism is not only about the head but about the body, and introduces an alternative view of what we can do to grow beyond our entrenched racialized divide.

Historia
Before a vision of a mysterious "Lady" invited Clark Strand and Perdita Finn to pray the rosary, they were not only uninterested in becoming Catholic but finished with institutional religion altogether. Their main spiritual concerns were the fate of the planet and the future of their children and grandchildren in an age of ecological collapse. But this Lady barely even referred to the Church and its proscriptions. Instead, she spoke of the miraculous power of the rosary to transform lives and heal the planet, and revealed the secrets within the rosary’s prayers and mysteries.

Beautiful and Poignant
Revisado: 02-04-23
The words are a deep comfort to my soul. I was raised Catholic and am now not affiliated with any organized religion. I find God under rocks, and in my friends, and in the stillness of night. I have always loved the rosary and Our Lady and this took me into a deeper more intimate relationship with both. My son died by suicide 7 months ago and this is the first time I feel faith returning to me in a flood, a torrent, an ocean of grace.

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

Profound. Medicine in an age of bypassing. In an age of getting to the silver lining. This is raw, potent, and applicable.
