Historia
Imagine The Story of O starring a Berkeley Ph.D. in comparative literature, who moonlights as a bike messenger, with a penchant for irony, self-analysis and as well as anal pleasures. Set in both San Francisco and the more chateau-friendly, Napa Valley, Weatherfield's deliciously decadent novel takes you on a sexually explicit journey into a netherworld of slave auctions, training regimes, enticing "ponies", (people) preening for dressage competitions. Desire runs rampant in this story of uncompromising mastery.

Great story. Terrible dead pan narration

I struggled to keep with it because of the narration. I should have just gotten the hard copy.

Historia
What could be easier than preventing a servant girl from marrying a prince, especially for 3 clever witches? But Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, and Magrat Garlick face more than they bargained for when they journey to the distant city of Genua. For one thing, their power is limited to Mrs. Gogol's weak voodoo spells, a one-eyed cat, and a second-hand magic wand that only works on pumpkins. Furthermore, the Godmother has made Destiny an offer it can't refuse. Do servant girls have to marry the prince?

Nigel Planer is my favorite!
Revisado: 01-04-22
Nigel Planer's narration gives it the life it deserves, as well as the DEATH it deserves. If you're new to Pratchett, start at the beginning of a given set of characters' timeline. For the Witches in this book, that means read Wyrd Sisters first.

Historia
In the wake of a devastating attack, an amnesty has been declared for all Augurs - finally allowing them to emerge from hiding and openly oppose the dark forces massing against the land of Andarra. As the Augur Davian and his new allies hurry north toward the ever-weakening Boundary, however, fresh horrors along their path suggest that their reprieve may have come far too late. His ally in the Capital, the new Northwarden, contends with assassins and politicians and uncovers a dangerous political secret.

So anticlimactic
Revisado: 07-13-21
I gobbled up the first 2 books, overlooking a lot of unnecessary plot and setting complexity, if not all out convolution, in the process because I felt the story could and would make a great point, eventually. That there would be a crescendo, a revelation, a triumph where the backstory, motives, and redemption of the characters (esp. Caeden) would make it all fall into place - that something would justify all the circuitry and passion of some of the characters. That the time (past future) would be relevant. To my dismay, however, there's 80+ hours of buildup across the trilogy for seemingly irrelevant characters to become meaningful at the last minute, of not being clear on exactly who is who, where they are located, how they got there, why their being there is relevant, or even if you're reading about the past, present, or future. You meet characters with what appear to be interesting, mysterious backgrounds who turn out to be nothing more than a means to a singular scene or just a quote in the dialog. The religious overtones are nauseating. And perhaps most disappointingly, there's no clear protagonist. There's not a clear anti-hero. Even the person we're told to regard as a villain is bad only because of her association with another character who's not really the character we're told he is, but we are told he's bad. Not that either of them are any worse than what we know about Caeden, who has unyielding loyalty from the people in the here and now (or is it the past? the future? hell, IDK) who are perfectly aware of his sociopathy. A universe that aspires to be so complex, full of various governing bodies, religions, variations on magic, locations with ridiculously difficult to pronounce (and remember) names, given its an audiobook, could have been stretched into 6 books if it had been described well. The character arcs should have been stretched at least that far to make them believable, relatable, or to give the reader a chance to feel they are as important as the narrative will abruptly expect you to hold them. But it was a whole lotta nothing I at least can say the female characters were no less banal than the male ones, FWIW. The *villain* female is as meaninglessly obsessed with Caeden as Caeden is allegedly obsessed with his dead wife. Allegedly.
Narration was okay but there's a lot of times when the tone should have been quite different. But he's got a good, even sounding voice.
**SPOILERS**
I am still not clear on why any character as guilty as Caeden is would need someone to go back in time to tell him that everything is all his fault AND that he shouldn't try to undo any of it. Because trying to undo it is impossible?? If changing things is not possible, why bother writing 80+ hours of audiobook about magic and time travel? I will never get these hours back.

Weak and Inconsistent
Revisado: 05-29-21
I stuck with this series hoping to figure out what drove all the characters. I still have no idea. The ending to the last 2 books is just as anticlimactic as the premise of the first 3 books. Bardugo introduces impulsive characters so justify poorly thought out story lines.
If all 7 books were as great as books 4 and 5 it'd be a great series. But they're just not.

Historia
Mort, like many teenagers, is gangly, unpromising, and struggling with a menial job - in his case, as Death's apprentice. He can barely handle his simple task of ushering souls out of Discworld, but he really screws up when he meets the beautiful Princess Keli, who is scheduled to be assassinated. Going against his boss's wishes, Mort kills Keli's assassin instead, which angers and interferes with Fate. But Mort's heroism seems to be for naught, since Discworld proceeds as though Keli had been killed.

Historia
The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

In AD 1119, a group of nine crusaders became known as the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon - a militant monastic order charged with protecting pilgrims and caravans traveling on the roads to and from the Holy Land. In time, the Knights Templar would grow in power and, ultimately, be laid low. But a small offshoot of the Templars endure and have returned to the order's original mission: to defend the roads of the world and guard those who travel on them.

For most of her life, Crystal McVea was a skeptic whose history of abuse and bad choices made her feel beyond the reach of God - who questioned if God was even real. She had all but given up hope. Then came December 10, 2009...and the moment that changed everything. Crystal doesn't remember the trauma or losing consciousness; she just remembers waking up in heaven, next to God....

Unsupported connections made
Revisado: 07-27-16
For someone who didn't believe in god she certainly spent a lot of time looking for his punishments. I don't doubt her NDE account for one minute. But no part of it validates any of her previous demonic encounter nonsense. She stretches to the point of breaking in trying to make false connections.
