The performance makes up a little of the story
Revisado: 11-26-18
Perhaps it's because I'm a fan of Alison Weir and others, but I found this novel to be basic; an attempt to make a story while still showing this short wife of Henry VIII to be stupid and insipid. I was not impressed and am now hesitant to listen to any other novels I've purchased by this author.

I love the deep history of Avalon
Revisado: 11-26-18
The performance is great. The story is awesome. it ties in the future and understanding of how things came to be. The story was good enough with this performance that I was deeply invested in the outcome and found myself feeling the emotions of the characters.

The narrator is ruining the story!
Revisado: 11-26-18
I love Diana Paxson, I love the Avalon stories. But this narrator is the worst. Half of the time it's more like listening to a computer recording with terrible attempts at voices. I would gladly repurchase the book under a different narrator.

Love the story, hate the narrator
Revisado: 01-05-18
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The characters sound whiney when the narrator attempts to do voices. And the only accent he seems to know is somewhere between Scots and Irish when he does an accent at all. He also tends to pause in strange places. I thought that maybe it would get better by this book, but no, it's still a terrible reading of it.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jim Dale?
Just about anyone! Simon Vance could have been an amazing option for this.

OMG the narration is terrible!
Revisado: 07-20-17
Would you try another book from Terry Goodkind and/or Jim Bond?
From Terry, absolutely. From Jim, highly unlikely.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Stone of Tears?
No idea, I'm struggling to get through the first section.
How could the performance have been better?
Jim Bond's voice is actually a nice one. It's what he does with the words that is completely AWFUL! When he's just reading, I enjoy it; but it's never long before a character speaks and the flat tone, lack of ANY inflection, zombie like speech pattern makes me want to return the book and get my money back. I'm not sure if he has never actually listened to himself in a recording when he's quoting the characters, or if he actually believes that this is good, but I hope he reads these reviews so that he can improve. I would rather he not even attempt to do voices if he can't get better than this. Seriously, when I started listening, I thought "oh, the other reviewers must be crazy, he has a lovely voice." Then came the parts of the book that has characters talking. And I completely changed my mind about the narration. It is absolutely atrocious!

I wasn't sure I would like this. I lean much more toward the female perspective and never much cared for Cromwell. But the writing and performance of this book are interesting, captivating, and give a better perspective of a very disliked man.

Best-selling author Alison Weir turns her masterly storytelling skills to the early life of young Elizabeth Tudor, who would grow up to become England's most intriguing and powerful queen. Sweeping in scope, The Lady Elizabeth is a fascinating portrayal of a woman far ahead of her time - whose dangerous and dramatic path to the throne shapes her future greatness.

Struggling!
Revisado: 05-31-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I'm still trying to get through the listen!
What did you like best about this story?
The written book.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Rosalyn Landor?
Ann Flosnik, Davina Porter, Bianca Amato are three that come to mind.
Did The Lady Elizabeth inspire you to do anything?
Not as an audio book. The actual written book, though, inspires to delve further into history for me. I love hte tutor era. I think Elizabeth I was an amazing woman who did what everyone said she couldn't. Was she perfect? No. However, I think she was what England desperately needed at the time.
Any additional comments?
I'm really struggling to get through an audiobook that I adore the actual book. It's very disappointing. I will eventually get through it. It's just a shame they chose a recording that did so little justice to writing.

I love Phillipa Gregory. She tells wonderful stories. The only thing that would make it better is if she could tell it from a more historically accurate position. But I still love reading and listening to her works.
The narrator in this did a lovely job too.

Many are familiar with the story of the much-married King Henry VIII of England and the celebrated reign of his daughter, Elizabeth I. But it is often forgotten that the life of the first Tudor queen, Elizabeth of York, Henry's mother and Elizabeth's grandmother, spanned one of England' s most dramatic and perilous periods. Now New York Times best-selling author and acclaimed historian Alison Weir presents the first modern biography of this extraordinary woman.

I love history
Revisado: 12-10-15
Allison Weir is amazing. I started with her novels so when I accidentally picked up one of these I was initially put out not wanting a historical textbook. But I've since been pleasantly surprised. It helps that I love history and this is not so rough as listening to a monotone professor drone on in a classroom. I love knowing what's real, what's suspected and what is not true based on fact. I know others have complained that it's about so many other people. But that's the only way to get to know the subject. Knowing what was going on is how we see who she was. Especially since so much of her own things didn't survive. My only complaint is the narrator. She's not so bad but I do wish she would realize that some of her voices and accents are truly terrible. A nice natural voice though.
