Christmas has come early to the town of Paterson, New Jersey, in the form of a snowstorm that dumps two feet of snow on the ground. Lawyer Andy Carpenter likes snow – white Christmas and all that – but it can cause problems for the walks he takes his dogs on every day. When Andy’s golden retriever, Tara, goes to play in the snow and instead discovers a body, Andy ends up on the phone with the local newspaper editor. The murder victim is Mayor Alex Oliva, who had an infamous relationship with the newspaper.

Lawyer Andy Carpenter and his wife, Laurie, enjoy walking their dogs, Tara and Sebastian. By this point in their marriage, it’s routine. When out for one of their strolls, their simple ritual isn’t so simple anymore. Across the street, a man is mistreating his dog. Three things happen at once: Andy yells, Laurie runs to stop the abuse, and so does a closer passerby, who so thoroughly beats the owner that both are arrested when the cops arrive.

Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, Simon Garfunkel, have recently retired from the police force. Not ready to give up the life yet, they come up with a proposal for fellow former cop, Laurie Carpenter, and her investigating partner, Marcus. They call themselves the K Team, in honor of Simon. Their first job as private investigators comes to them from Judge Henry Henderson, who's known as a very tough but fair judge, and they've all come up against him in court at one time or another. Though it's hard to believe, Judge Henderson is being blackmailed and extorted.

At the end of the last Andy Carpenter book, we were left with the optimism of the K Team as an additional Andy Carpenter chronicle with same cast of fabulous characters. I’ve anxiously awaited K Team but it never occurred to me that A) it would read with Corey Douglas in the first person which makes sense since Andy isn’t a member of the K Team; B) that Grover Gardner would be replaced (his Andy Carpenter is replaceable); C) I'd miss Ricky and the family component. Perhaps, in the next K Team release Lorelei King can narrate as Lorie Collins in the first person with Grover Gardner also narrating as Andy? I think that would be a Winning Team. I have already pre-purchased "Muzzled" for it's July 7th release.

One poignant wish leads Andy to a child named Danny, whose selfless plea strikes a chord. Danny asked Santa for a coat for his mother, a sweater for his dachshund, Murphy, and for the safe return of his missing father.

Can't wait for the K-Team

Just when I think David can't get any better; he does!! Great story with twists and surprise ending. All the character are in rare form with no elements that are not believable. Most of all Grover Gardner's narration of Andy wits keeps a smile on my face. Only problem is that David needs to write faster;) Can't wait to hear about the adventures of "K-TEAM"!!!!
