To much to quickly
Revisado: 08-29-24
Some reviews say the story dragged on with to many stat pages..maybe I didn’t make it in far enough for that. For me the main character was discovering abilities and spells every other page. Good authors could have made a whole book about him developing any one of those skills with progression. Instead the story steam rolls the listener with one amazing impossibility after another for some just starting. I get op mc’s but I just couldn’t keep up with this one and there really was no reason to rush in with most of these revelations.. I mean the guy is stuck here why not make him work or grind for it a little instead of making it like a veteran world of Warcraft player starting a new level one character in a level 150 cap world where you can grind out 50 levels in a day with no real effort

Historia
A world on the precipice of the apocalypse. A secret forged in the flames of war. A chance to start over. For John Sutton, only one of those three things matters. Retired from a decade of brutal war, he wants nothing more than a quiet pastoral life while he does his best to stem the steady increase of his Doom Points before they hit 100, signaling the start of the end. He’s been given a small farm on the outskirts of the empire as thanks for his service, but no matter how far he travels, it's impossible to escape the war's devastating effects on the world.

Revisado: 08-28-24
This book was ok but you start to notice that there really isn’t much farming left to do. The story really stops the development of first book and by the end of the book you are left scratching your head thinking…hey um where did the story I was reading go. It just gets worse with the next book. Does it get better in books 4 or 5 I don’t know and will not find out unless they go to free status because the story just isn’t good enough to pay for

Pointless read
Revisado: 08-28-24
Like so many other books these days the author decides to throw away everything that has been building through the prior stories and resolve the issues that are the entire plot through a snap of the finger spell that until the last 20 pages had not exsisted. What was the point of the whole farming theme if he fix’s the issue he had to start farming for/retire for with a spell/enchantment that has nothing To do with wheat or his quest. The author doesn’t even attempt to tie them together. A simple paragraph saying that by studying how the wheat cleaned the mana he took the concept and applied it to the enchantment would have been enough that way him farming motivated the resolution….but nope nothing like that instead we are given an easy solution then in last page it is implied that this might only be a band aid so maybe just maybe the farming will help out in future books,, I found this book unsatisfactory and it just drifted so much from what the first book was that I’m left writing a bad review for I series I kind of enjoyed…

Love hate
Revisado: 08-24-24
We are told that advancement is hard and needs to be earned…then we sit back as someone jumps two realms or is given advancement without any work of there own. 1k greater essence is a fortune..but oh wait someone got just got 100 celestial essence..next time rewards are give we are getting 10k celestial..wait now 10 internal followed by 5k.. this is the major issue with this series. The author is a hypocrite saying one thing then having his characters break his rules when ever it is needed for convenience. We can’t have main character get to far away from his followers so just give them free advancements. 20-30 min character pages bah. Then right after our charter page the same character advances and half there skills change before they are ever used. Power without skill is pretty much the definition of this series. I really wish they would just stick with the story and screw useless upgrades for a few books

It’s just so unrealistic
Revisado: 08-05-24
Hmm I think some is going to kill me so what should I do…hmm nothing…. Some try’s to kill me the king in waiting we know who it is what do we do…..hmmm nothing…. Oh they are trying to do so again and poison the king, deceive him take over the kingdom what do we do…nothing. Ok this guy has tried to kill and take over so let’s leave him alone and go on a journey…hmm let’s give him a schedule of we’re we are resuppling and give him a chance to ambush… he does just that and we are all stunned…? We know he is a creep yet we let him alone with our wives and lovers..how do you think that will work out…welll if he speaks ill of use them we will of course get upset…and do nothing. … he sends men out to attack our lover and we do what…tell her we must leave her alone with no protection to keep her safe????
Is a picture of stupidity taking place as you read my comments. A book about people who stand around doing nothing while loved ones are hurt and towns are destroyed. You wait and wait for the MC to do something but two books in he sits backs and does nothing. It’s just so unrealistic don’t waste your time like I did waiting for Mc to show any intelligence it just doesn’t happen

Likes and dislikes hmm..
I liked the story
Disliked how long was spent finishing the last book.
Disliked how the end battle dragged on for years but at least that can give room for later filler
Another great book in the series

To long to get started
Revisado: 07-21-24
The first 2 hours and 40 mins were dedicated to Rierdons rangers explaining their feelings…..this would be ok if it had had any bearing at all on the story that was to follow but it did not.. it was absolutely pointless and the audiobook was 22 hours long so this wasted over 10% of the book for no gain at all. The beginning was so boring that I almost stopped reading the entire series. The story itself wasn’t that great either with rob constantly distancing himself from caring and while I get that the whole point was so that he could overcome this and become a better person it was a forced trial that really wasn’t needed he has had enough of these kinds of trials and the ending leaves his emotional state back where it was at the beginning with little growth. He could have attained that same growth through the story told without all the filler/added drama that was injected to bloat the story. All in all this book really sucked. If they had left out all the bloat the whole story could have been told in three chapters leaving the rest of the chapters to continue the story. Instead I just got a head ache enduring pointless inner monologue and self justifications from the characters

This second books try’s to hard
Revisado: 07-14-24
I didn’t like this book as much as the first. It was like the author was trying to make everything perfect. The adventures constantly hash out every detail, cover every possible fail point in their own plans, and yet seem to have back ups at hand for the eventual fail point which almost never happened . The plans go perfectly. Every scenario and decision they make they have to explain in detail why they are doing it, why it is happening, and we are hand held through the entire story. Makes it boring. I never got to use my own imagination because every detail was spoon fed me leaving no room for anything but the exact path I was forced to dredge through. The only character with any personality who might go off script is the barbarian how is over top stupid for someone who’s history states she is supposed to be the most educated of the group

Historia
What happens when the haggling is done and the shops are closed? When the quest has been given, the steeds saddled, and the adventurers are off to their next encounter? They keep the world running, the food cooked, and the horses shoed, yet what adventurer has ever spared a thought or concern for the Non-Player Characters? In the town of Maplebark, four such NPCs settle in for a night of actively ignoring the adventurers drinking in the tavern when things go quickly and fatally awry.

Some people just knew how to go out in style. Tim had never been one of those guys. Tim was always a planner. The plan was to get into college, graduate, and find a well-paying job. That plan was coming together nicely until he saw a presentation to get paid to play The Etheric Coast. At his graduation ceremony. After watching the company's employee recruitment video, Big Richie's words had a whole new meaning. He could spend his life going from a cubicle at work to a one-bedroom apartment and back again...or enter a virtual world of unlimited possibilities.

Good book to much inner dialogue
Revisado: 04-08-24
You’ll pull out your hair at a few points in this book saying to yourself just get on with it. The inner dialogue gives you a view into the characters through ya which is fine except he constantly rambles on to himself. Moves a few feet then rambles some more it gets frustrating by the time your half way in and he starts repeating himself using different examples
Later the rambling is replaced with constant profanity that makes every character just plain unlikable it’s as if second half was written by a frat boy who thinks everyone should sound like an idiot
