Historia
Hans Castorp is, on the face of it, an ordinary man in his early 20s, on course to start a career in ship engineering in his home town of Hamburg, when he decides to travel to the Berghof Santatorium in Davos. The year is 1912 and an oblivious world is on the brink of war. Castorp’s friend Joachim Ziemssen is taking the cure and a three-week visit seems a perfect break before work begins. But when Castorp arrives he is surprised to find an established community of patients, and little by little, he gets drawn into the closeted life and the individual personalities of the residents.

Living on the Magic Mountain
Revisado: 03-14-24
Considering this book was written, almost 100 years ago and tells the life of a young man suffering from a disease which is fairly uncommon today, the narrative should feel unfamiliar.
Instead, within a few minutes, the performance of the narrator is so perfect that we are Becoming an integral part of the story. I felt like a witness walking alongside Hans and his journey.
In addition, the issues which the book discusses using the Jesuit and the anarchist are still relevant today.
A worthwhile journey, fruitful, and engrossing.

Historia
As C.P. Snow lamented in his now famous essay, "Two Cultures", education is too often arbitrarily divided between the sciences and the humanities, as if each were acrimoniously divorced parents who wished never to speak again to each other. What do physics and psychology have in common, some may ask. Or, what does chemistry have to do with sociology?

Historia
In elegant and often hilarious prose, Kunstler depicts our nation's evolution from the Pilgrim settlements to the modern auto suburb in all its ghastliness. The Geography of Nowhere tallies up the huge economic, social, and spiritual costs that America is paying for its car-crazed lifestyle. It is also a wake-up call for citizens to reinvent the places where we live and work, to build communities that are once again worthy of our affection. Kunstler proposes that by reviving civic art and civic life, we will rediscover public virtue and a new vision of the common good.

Our lives are saturated by color. We live in a world of colors, and color marks our psychological and social existence. But for all color's ubiquity, we don't know much about it. Authors David Scott Kastan and Stephen Farthing offer a fresh and imaginative exploration of one of the most intriguing and least-understood aspects of everyday experience.

Revisado: 02-11-22
I liked this book overwhelmed me. I am so impressed about how beautifully the painter and the writer combined their strength to open my eyes to so much Beauty. Having been educated in Western art history and having had the privilege of seeing The Monuments have Western Civilization as well as those of the Orient, I feel that I was an ignorant person until I read this book. You paragraph I will read it again with great pleasure.

Historia
Motherhood isn’t easy, especially when you’re a mother of a Black son. Ten years ago, Cheryl jumped at the chance to send her son, Javonte, to an exclusive boarding school in New England - far away from Atlanta and the violence of the city streets. It was the American dream, or was it? Now settled in Vermont, Javonte is married and well-employed, but Cheryl hardly ever sees him, and when she does, her own son seems like someone she only used to know.

starting with the title until the last word, this story hurt. There's, no pretend, no makeup between us and her characters. We're getting it like it is – straight in the face.
Without spelling the word, a letter at a time, she weaves around us the ugly sticky web of racism. Teaching us the hard way how we are all watching from our porch.

Historia
Buddhism is a house full of treasures – practices for gaining the happiness of future lives, the bliss of liberation and the supreme happiness of enlightenment – but knowing the difference between Dharma and non-Dharma practices is the key that opens the door to all those treasures. No matter how much we know about emptiness, the chakras or controlling our vital energy through kundalini yoga, it's all pointless without this crucial understanding of how to practice Dharma, how to correct our actions.
