Truly awful production of an amazing book
Revisado: 10-02-21
I completely agree with all the reviews claiming the narration was horrible, and that the narrator completely slaughtered the characters and the book itself.
however, shouldn't there be a director or a producer? someone other than the narrator, that "puts it all together"? is it really the narrator's job to read all the books and understand all the characters? shouldn't the blame be placed on the recording studio or audible? I don't think the narrator is such a bad actor, but his job is acting out a book, someone else should provide the background and give him some direction.
I really think someone should be held accountable for this horrible performance of these classic amazing books! and it's definitely not the narrator.

Mixed emotions
Revisado: 08-31-21
Although the narration is good and the main storyline interesting, too many American cliches and idiotic dialogues made me want to vomit.
I like happy endings and as a thriller lover I don't expect realism in every aspect, but some things are basic and consistency is one of them: trying to be realistic combining some very unrealistic scenarios doesn't work for me.
If you only want to pass the time go for it - it's interesting and unpredictable although most of the characters are believable. I wouldn't call it a quality thriller though.

such an important read!
Revisado: 08-10-21
not sure how to review this book without spoiling, so I'll just say the horrific scenario leading the story (even if unrealistic such as in a lot of thrillers), presents truths we should all look straight in the eye.
there are a lot of open questions at the end but that is part of what makes this book so important, because those questions are not really relevant to the main issue.

Lord of the flies for millennials
Revisado: 06-24-21
I've read Lord of the flies as a teenager and considered it a masterpiece. It is therefore very hard for me to review this book without comparing it to it. There is of course added social critique that refers to the current generation, but in the core of the story I'm not sure they're all that different.
In any way if you haven't read Lord of the flies I highly recommend you read this one (that's why I gave it four stars and not three), giving the proper attention to the many philosophical question it arises as well as the social critique implied by it, the saddest of which, in my opinion, can be easily understood in the interview with the pirates' leader.
If this book was also inspired by real events from hurricane Katrina or the like, well, that makes it even sadder. Glad I chose not to bring children into this world in any case ☺️

Historia
Everyone has secrets, and Rachel Holloway is no exception. She’s worked hard to keep the past where it belongs: dead and buried. And so far, she’s been very successful. But now the small newspaper where she works wants to produce a podcast on a cold case: the disappearance 12 years ago of young Molly Forster. Some secrets should never see the light of day, and, as far as Rachel is concerned, whatever happened to little Molly is one of them.

narrator is great mostly. the story is also great up until the ending when it becomes really stupid. spoiler alert -
he could have threatened her family again or just run away but the idea that a 12-year-old would kill her entire family - from a psychopath who's been avoiding the law for 10 years? I don't know, it ruined it for me. also there was more room for describing the way Molly sees the world. I do think her character was believable because she had had an awful trauma as a child and her decisions are mostly based on that trauma but it could have added more depth to it.

I really liked White lies but here something felt off. without giving any spoilers it's just there's no real background explaining the behavior of one of the main characters only little clues thrown here and there but there's no consistency in in the behavior so it just didn't work for me.

American cliche
Revisado: 03-30-21
I usually like reading novels written by women, but the women characters in this novel are so typical of the chauvinistic society we live in it felt like the author was a man. On top of that the whole book is a cliche and really just made me throw up a bit in my mouth.

A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word.
