Historia
On humanity's first extra-solar mission, the exploration vessel Magellan, or, as she prefers, "Maggie", discovers an alien artifact. Deciding that finding advanced alien life is too important to ignore, Captain Allison Ridgeway chooses to return to Earth while ordering her crew to reverse engineer technology far beyond anything back home. Meanwhile, at mission control, the governments struggle to maintain the existence of aliens a secret while also combating bureaucracy, the military industrial complex, and everyone else who wants a piece of what could skyrocket humanity into a new technological age.

Just an all around great book.
Revisado: 04-24-25
The author of this book must be a very sarcastic individual because the humor that followed in this book was fantastic. I haven’t laughed out loud and replayed parts of a book in quite a while. The narrators somewhat dry, yet perfectly friendly tone while delivering the humor was a perfect match. I hope this author has more books to delve into, I’m on my way there to check it out. 🥰

Historia
The fate of humanity lies on the shoulders of Burt Radcliffe, the new head of NASA's Near Earth Object program. He's been rushing the completion of DefenseNet, a ring of satellites that are both part of an early-warning system, as well as the means to eliminate incoming threats. Yet Burt knows that despite the world's best efforts, nothing can be done about the alert he's just received. Coming out of deep space is a danger that's been approaching since the dawn of time. A black hole. An unstoppable threat that promises death for all in its wake.

Not what I expected!
Revisado: 03-24-25
Not what I expected, compared to so many other hard science fiction books I’ve read, and I loved every word. Ending was very good and left you feeling happy. Then there is the epilogue! I hope there will be an another book at some point.

Not what I thought, not for me.
Revisado: 12-31-24
I wish I knew this was going to be a video game. I used my credit based on reviews and specifically one that mentioned they loved Dresden and loved this. This is no Harry Dresden like novel. Now I know what “world building” means and I’ll avoid it. I adore sci-fi and some fantasy but I really can’t stand this type of book.

Few can compete with the Natasha Smith when it comes to entertaining, but her childhood rival, Sophie Winston, certainly tries. While Natasha is known for her intricate centerpieces and painstakingly prepared gourmet meals, Sophie likes to keep things simple...real simple.

Ridiculous
Revisado: 12-12-24
The characters in the story are ridiculous and stupid. The women are portrayed as superficial and all characters possess a negative amount of common sense.
One of the most unbelievable things is how many extra people ended up being invited (at the last minute) to a Thanksgiving dinner that had already been shopped and planned for, but miraculously there’s PLENTY of food to go around. Get real! lol
The narrator sounds like she smokes three packs a day. If your career is to read books aloud, please take it seriously. Study accents, work with a linguist, make an effort to at least pick a regional dialect and go with it. The snooty and arrogant gone with the wind impersonation is killing me. I have MANY family members in the south (Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia) and none of them sound anything like this! Stop stereotyping them. I am returning a free book.

Historia
What won't we try in our quest for perfect health, beauty, and the fountain of youth? Well, just imagine a time when doctors prescribed morphine for crying infants. When liquefied gold was touted as immortality in a glass. And when strychnine - yes, that strychnine, the one used in rat poison - was dosed like Viagra. Looking back with fascination, horror, and not a little dash of dark, knowing humor, Quackery recounts the lively, at times unbelievable, history of medical misfires and malpractices.

David Lee Roth
Revisado: 11-28-24
The little snarky comment about David Lee Roth “becoming a paramedic” stopped me from finishing this book. I guarantee his IQ is higher than the author of this book. His father was a physician and David is a very intelligent person. Yes he is different but most creatives are. Someone writing a research book making a comment based on mtv news should research a little more, before trying to be funny by putting someone else down.

Neat twist on a classic, The sound effects and the skill of the voice actors were excellent, probably the best audible production. I’ve listened to so far.

Not happy with narrator. Almost every important name and key word/term pronounced completely different than the rest of the series.
It triggered mysohonia and I had to quit around chapter 11.

Revisado: 12-22-23
I have passed this book up many times, thinking it just wasn’t for me. It’s not what I’m in to, but I decided to listen and I’m hooked. It’s not what I thought it was going to be…it’s much more of a military, traditional space marines story, than a fantasy/magic story. I will be continuing through the series.

Different, in a good way.
Revisado: 05-12-23
This is not like any other sci-fi/space opera book I’ve ever read, or listened to (which would be a lot!) It starts out a bit slow, but the story is interesting. It’s one of those books that make it hard to go to bed, because you really need to know what’s going to happen next!

I’ve been an audible member since 2015 and have listened to hundreds of books…this one intense. Very different from any other book I’ve personally listened to (in this type of genre.) What a refreshing change! I liked it very much….smiled, laughed, cried!
I’m now a fan of this author. Oh and the narrator….whew! 🥰
