Historia
When Aurelie Harcourt's father dies in debtor's prison, he leaves her just two things: his wealthy family, whom she has never met, and his famous pen name, Nathaniel Droll. Her new family greets her with apathy and even resentment. Only the quiet houseguest, Silas Rotherham, welcomes her company. When Aurelie decides to complete her father's unfinished serial novel, she must keep her identity as Nathaniel Droll hidden while searching for the truth about her mother's disappearance - and perhaps even her father's death.

If I had wanted the Christian Bible forced at me in large doses, I would have read the words in the original book.
Revisado: 01-27-23
Meh. The overwhelming scripture quoting ruined the book. The plot was a mash up of Dickens’ Little Dorrit meets the mistaken assumptions of Pride and Prejudice without the excellent writing of either book.

I am going to die, Polly thought. The crowd clamored for a speech. Polly raised her hands, and they fell silent. From the foot of the gallows, she asked the spectators why she, a poor woman, should hang for theft, while the abbess of Covent Garden can commit murder on the souls of innocent country girls over and over again and yet go free - and then she condemned them to hell.

Horrible Narrator!
Revisado: 12-30-15
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Narrator spoiled the audiobook. Struggling to finish. Will never buy another audiobook with this narrator. Sheer torture to listen.
Would you be willing to try another one of Lizzie Stanton’s performances?
Never buy another audiobook with this narrator.

What would you give up for everything? Tristan Stone was powerful, commanding, and sex incarnate. And he wore it all so well. From the moment his mesmerizing gaze met mine, I had no choice but surrender to everything he was. His power. His decadence. His passion. He was all I never knew I needed. He wanted to possess me, and I wanted to be his everything. All I had to do was accept what he offered. But everything has a price.

Terrible Narration & Production
Revisado: 12-18-14
Would you try another book from K. M. Scott and/or Veronica Meunch and Christian Fox ?
I should not have ignored the so-so reviews. I will not be listening to the rest of the series due to poor performance, slipshod production, and average storyline.
The premise of the story has been done before, and while Book 1 had a slightly interesting twist, I got tired of listening to the self-doubting and whiny female lead character.
Would you ever listen to anything by K. M. Scott again?
No.
Would you be willing to try another one of Veronica Meunch and Christian Fox ’s performances?
This is the first audio book I listened to with Veronica Meunch as narrator, and it will be my last. Her nasal inflection on certain words (most anything with an "a" sound in it, such as hands, man) caused me to flinch. She had some regional accent quirks that were prominent and marred her "performance." Her "performance" was a lackluster narration, rather than an inflected performance. Her mispronounced words set my teeth grinding, and her attempt at a Minnesota accent was horrifyingly bad.
Christian Fox's performance was good and infused his character with emotion and personality. He has a pleasant voice and his performance was free of the nasal inflections and regional accent quirks that the female narrator exhibited. I would listen to something performed by Christian again.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No.
Any additional comments?
The producer should be publically shamed for selecting such a poor narrator for the female characters.
The audiobook included some repeated portions. At first, I thought there must be something wrong with how the file downloaded to my iPhone, so I deleted the audiobook and re-downloaded it. The repeated portions remained, so I assumed they resulted from a bad edit, hence my comment about poor final production.

Interesting Series, Hot Storyline
Revisado: 11-10-14
If you could sum up Close Liaisons in three words, what would they be?
First in a series of three fantasy books about a human-alien love affair. Lots of sex scenes, so tender ears, beware.
What did you like best about this story?
I don't read a lot of sci-fi/fantasy, but this series had great reviews, so I decided to try it.
Any additional comments?
Male character is a bit one dimensional, more of a cipher than a fully realized character. However, the male character is revealed in more depth, in later books.

Romantic Story Ruined; Poor Narration & Production
Revisado: 11-10-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The production and narration was so poor, that the only thing that recommends the book was the continuity of the story.
Would you recommend Close Obsession to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes, I would recommend the book, and the series.
What didn’t you like about Kitty Hendrix’s performance?
Narration pace was too fast. I kept checking that I had not accidentally selected 1.5 speed on the Audible app. The production did not allow enough pauses at the end of sentences and at the end of each chapter. Uncomfortable listening experience - like speeding things up to meet a pre-defined total running time (TRT). Awful.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, the book was hard to put down.
Any additional comments?
Series audio books should always have the same narrator. This series had a different narrator for each of the three books, which made it hard to concentrate on the story and follow which character was speaking, because of each narrator's different style.
