Historia
How did human beings learn to knit? What's the story? We don't know, and there may be many stories of unknown knitters who figured out how to make fabric from a ball of yarn and two sticks. These fictional stories spin tales of how we all may have learned to knit, starting from the first knitted cloth made in Egypt and all the way up to the present. Told through the stories of three main characters, Knitting Through Time shows how women in Western Europe and North America may have learned to knit. Journey with Seraphina, a Roman aristocrat of the 4th century, who seeks solace in the stark ...

Delightful on many levels!
Revisado: 03-01-25
This engaging novel connects historical eras with the present with knitting and Christian life as its theme. The characters are all interesting and well drawn. They each follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit to create fascinating lives, knitting as they go. My favorite is a lovely mystic who invents knitting after giving up a splendid life as wife of a Roman Senator while living alone in a cave in Egypt. I don’t want to spoil the story, but I can tell you she lives a long, long life!

Historia
Taken from writings, orations, and recorded observations of life, this audiobook selects the best of Native American wisdom and distills it to its essence in short, digestible quotes - perhaps even more timely now than when they were first written. In addition to the short passages, this edition includes the complete "Soul of an Indian", as well as other writings by Ohiyesa (Charles Alexander Eastman), one of the great interpreters of American Indian thought, and three great speeches by Chiefs Joseph, Seattle, and Red Jacket.

These examples of oratory from native Americans are poetic and heartbreaking. Some of them are hard to hear, but you will come away a better human.

Stoicism and women’s role
Revisado: 12-16-23
This episode filled an important gap for me. As a woman, I have wondered how one element of stoicism applies or does not apply to the art of raising children. My gut tells me a young child in my care needs more guidance and emotional synchrony than a sibling, spouse or parent. The stoic idea that compassion deprives the other of their own growth is sound for adults and not sufficient for small children. I thank Martha Nussbaum for elaborating on that distinction.

Throughout history, women have played integral roles in family, society, religion, government, war - in short, in all aspects of human civilization. Their contributions have often shaped history and shifted the axis of power for later generations of women. And yet, unearthing their stories from the historical record has often been a challenge. In Powerful Women of the Medieval World, Professor Dorsey Armstrong will introduce you to 10 amazing women who played vital roles in the Middle Ages.

Ukrainian grit must have come from somewhere. Meet Olga!!
Revisado: 10-02-23
This is a terrific and engaging series. The women are showcased within their historical and social contexts. I was smitten with all of them, but Olga’s creativity and vengeance landed her in sainthood. Um, what? Listen and find out. My other favorites were Genghis Khan’s wives, daughters and daughters in law who ruled the conquered lands with wisdom and savvy rarely seen in history. What a terrific listen!

Beautiful synthesis of modern psychology and ayurveda

Charlotte is very approachable. She weaves pshychological knowledge with ayurveda. I find all the podcasts enlightening in both areas. She draws on her own experience and clinical and academic sources as well. This is a very nutritious listen!
