This is an excellent portrayal of the biblical doctrine of heaven. While I am not sure, I agree with all of what he says, he hit the nail on the head for the vast majority of his points. This is a must read or listen for any Christian that is trapped in depression, purposelessness, or just needs that extra boost to live for God.

This is by far one of the best books I’ve listen to on audible. It was well constructed, doctrinally sound 99% of the time, and well researched. It also challenged my soul.

Like all eschatology books, it is very controversial. However, of one makes the assumption that the entire Bible is to be read in the literal/normal hermeneutic, a premillennialism/pretribulational eschatology naturally results of that hermeneutic is applied consistently. Ironside does a great job a faithfully placing all the pieces together. The only way to refute him is to allegorize these passages like the amillennials do. This book is spot on.

Beth Moore is not wrong in her assessment but leaves a lot to assumption. She doesn’t touch on holiness, chastisement, and other key prerequisites to hearing God. Likewise, she doesn’t go into great detail on what it means to walk in the Holy Spirit, which is vital to fulfilling her entire premise. My wife would understand her but many Christians would be at amiss when it comes to actually implementing these tips.

This is a great book. It challenges our devotion to Christ. However, there is a certain bias that we can bring in the Kingdom through the gospel and social reform. While many hold this view today, it isn’t widely accepted though it was extremely common prior to the world wars. It is based on a unlikely interpretation of a few verses and simply contradicts much of Scripture. With theology aside, the book does challenge the reader’s heart well. My only other criticism is that I wish he would have explained the gospel, the fact that Scripture is how we determine God’s will, and the fact that the Holy Spirit won’t always say to command to physically give up everything but expects us to have a heart that would. If commanded. He did mention the last concern in a round about way but it could have been emphasized more. All in all, it was a solid, classic book. Well worth any Christian reading, even those who disagree with some of the doctrine (such as I).

I wish he would have spent more time emphasizing a relationship with God, but the tips were great.

I feel this book was an excellent apologetics presentation on the Bible. I’m a Baptist pastor and was familiar with most of this information and even learned some more. However, the final chapter was problematic.

I feel Josh failed to differentiate between God’s interaction with us in the realm of judicial justification and our growth in sanctification. He almost painted God as this “anything goes” no consequence, spineless jellyfish in the final chapter instead of a father who chastens.

It is true in the sense of justification that God does indeed look at us through a non-judgmental, non-accusing perspective (Romans 8:1), but this is not the case in our day to day walk. We have been adopted into God’s family and we are His adopted children. Nothing we can do can destroy that relationship. However, Hebrew’s 12:1-8 clearly teaches God will not allow His children to live in unrepentant sin.

He will chasten (punish/correct) that sin until the son repents. If His Christian does not repent, it is a sign this Christian is not a true believer but a illegitimate son (Hebrews 12:8). This is clearly taught in that passage.

Im afraid Josh applied many of the passages that teach God’s judicial acceptance to His Spirit-led relationship. God does break fellowship with Christians but never relationship. Once they are saved, they are always saved. However, if fellowship is broken, He will gently correct until the Christian repents (1 John 1:9).

If repentance does not result, chastisement and scourging will. This is clear, orthodox Christian dogma I wish Josh presented better.
Other than that, the book was top notch and extreme well done. I may be nit-picking but this was a concern I didn’t want to ignore.

This book is a fantastic theological expose of walking in the Spirit in the present. How to savor your relationship with Him and escape legalistic religion. I’m a Baptist pastor and theologian. I agree with 90-95% of what he wrote and would highly recommend this great Bible lesson. It confirmed a great deal I had previously learned from my self-study. Please listen and be blessed.
