Historia
When seasoned journalist Harry Dunkley is slipped a compromising photograph of a federal MP one frosty Canberra morning, he knows he is onto something big. But the deeper Harry investigates, the more he realises that this photograph is merely the hint of a larger conspiracy at work and a secret its guardians are willing to kill to protect.

Miserable technical issues
Revisado: 02-26-24
I already knew I would enjoy the story because I've seen the Netflix series based on the books. The narrator's voice is fine, but the volume varies from a whisper to full out yelling. A small amount of variation adds to the experience, but much of the dialogue is people murmuring requiring the sound level to be turned up to maximum. Any ambient noise where one is listening makes it impossible to hear the dialogue at all. Just a second later, the narrator is yelling at the top of his voice. It makes the entire experience miserable. How did the director and audio engineers to not recognize this issue and decrease the variation?

Historia
Glacier National Park police officer Monty Harris knows that each summer at least one person - be it a reckless, arrogant climber or a distracted hiker - will meet tragedy in the park. But Paul "Wolfie" Sedgewick's fatal fall from the sheer cliffs near Going-to-the-Sun Road is incomprehensible. Wolfie was an experienced and highly regarded wildlife biologist who knew all too well the perils that Glacier's treacherous terrain presents - and how to avoid them.

I hate the main character
Revisado: 08-29-22
The basic plot of this book could have been interesting, but it is in serious need of editing to remove about half of repetitive, seemingly endless kvetching and moaning of the main character. All he does is complain about his older brother's bullying, his father's alcoholism, his mother's mental health issues and his estranged wife's demands while he crashes around. He blames everybody else for his misery to the point that I had to stop listening. My husband wanted to continue listening while we were on a long drive so we finished it, but on my own, I would not have. RC Bray does a great job reading the story but even he can't make this thing interesting.

Twilight wannabe without the charming, vampires
Revisado: 08-15-22
I wanted to like this book, set in Florence, about a woman who works in the Uffizi - but the characters were too flat and coarse. There was no charm, no romance, no hope. The Prince was nasty, cruel, cold. There was no chemistry - just competition and whining. I wish I could return it.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Weir is 1 hit wonder and this ain't the hit
Revisado: 03-13-22
Maybe I expected too much from Andy Weir based on The Martian, but this book put me to sleep so many times I finally gave up. It started slow and never gained momentum. And Ray Porter, who I really enjoy as narrator for the Tier One operator series did not add to this story. Mr Weir is obviously talented. The Martian was so good that I stayed up all night listening to RC Bray reading it.

Slower than previous but still entertaining
Revisado: 01-23-22
This story was not as engaging as the earlier books. The characters were a bit flat and the plot a bit predictable. The narration was great, as always. Overall I enjoyed it, just not as much as her other books. I will definitely be looking for the next book to become available.

Never is an extraordinary novel, full of heroines and villains, false prophets and elite warriors, jaded politicians and opportunistic revolutionaries. It brims with cautionary wisdom for our times, and delivers a visceral, heart-pounding story that transports listeners to the brink of the unimaginable.

Slow story, wrong narrator
Revisado: 12-20-21
I have read most of Ken Follett's work. He's written some great stories and some not so great. This one is one of the worst. And the narrator is boring.

disappointing
Revisado: 09-12-21
Characters are thin and the story is thinner. It was predictable and flat. Zippers were not used in women's dresses until the 1930s so if the main character had one, it should have been quite a notable detail. Then she was running after a car in the long, silk dress - I don't think so. Jumped onto the car in said dress- What? The details about her accent also seemed odd - an American accent with a touch of Bronx? Overall, the book just did not work, even as a fluffy cozy mystery.

mispronounciations galore
Revisado: 10-09-20
The reader seems incapable of pronouncing the names of American towns or regions. He says "Adeer on dak" instead of "Ad i ron dak" as it is pronounced in the area. Then he says "Quan teeco" instead of "Quant i co". These are not obscure names with odd pronunciations and considering the affront taken by Brits when we mispronounce names from their country, it seems an easy mistake to avoid.
