Historia
The narrator of Atwood's riveting novel calls himself Snowman. When the story opens, he is sleeping in a tree, wearing an old bedsheet, mourning the loss of his beloved Oryx and his best friend Crake, and slowly starving to death. He searches for supplies in a wasteland where insects proliferate and pigoons and wolvogs ravage the pleeblands, where ordinary people once lived, and the Compounds that sheltered the extraordinary. As he tries to piece together what has taken place, the narrative shifts to decades earlier. How did everything fall apart so quickly?

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Re- reading after 30 years - incredible
Revisado: 01-21-24
The performer was excellent. I didn’t really get it when I read it as a young man. Worth reading again if you haven’t for a long time.

Revisado: 07-23-22
Great book. Read it years ago - was excited to sit back on my drive to work and go through it again. Unlistenable as released though - sorry Annie -
Please just have another performer do it - start to finish

Magical thinking wet dream
Revisado: 11-04-19
I tried to make it through this silly book, but could not. It's not a serious discussion for thinking people. The author suggests that your subconscious mind can read what is in an unopened letter and knows what is happening thousands of miles away - total junk science. He gives examples of coincidences as "proof" that you can "talk" to your subconscious and thereby create magic. The idea that you can "re-train" your subconscious is intriguing and seems to have value. If he had stayed with this narrative and stayed away from the magic thinking foolishness, the book may have been worthwhile. Skip this nonsense and try "Emotional Intelligence" instead - unless you actually believe that God listens to your prayers - then this may be just the ticket.

This is an audio book - performer doesn't know
Revisado: 04-21-19
There are some simple and sometimes subtle things that a performer needs to change when reading a book. This performer believes that the book including graph titles, lists etc. need to be read verbatim. The result is occasional incomprehensible word nonsense that is distracting to the listener. I guess if you are already an MBA this may be a good review and reminder of topics, but this condensed information is probably not a good audio book for someone like me who isn't already knowledgeable about the subject.
