Historia
Random House presents the audiobook edition of Rising Strong, written and read by Brené Brown. The physics of vulnerability is simple: if we are brave enough often enough, we will fall. This is a book about what it takes to get back up and how owning our stories of disappointment, failure and heartbreak gives us the power to write a daring new ending. Struggle can be our greatest call to courage and Rising Strong our clearest path to deeper meaning, wisdom and hope.

Important work
Revisado: 12-16-19
I now own five books by Brene Brown and each of them take me down when I read them. They bring hard truths to light and these are sometimes very hard to take. I thoroughly appreciate Brown's own vulnerability in her writing by sharing parts of her own story with us. She humanises a very human thing - learning about ourselves and course-correcting to live our best lives. It's hard. I feel exposed just reading her books and listening to her talks. Her ideas are useful in challenging and addressing the ugliness of our humanity yet humbling to emerge on the best side of our humanity. Brene Brown and others like her are doing important work. If there is anything we need more than ever in this age of machine-driven advancements and cold competition is to truly be and remain human with every uncertain step of life and still be able to have compassion for ourselves and others in the process.

Women get mixed messages about how to succeed at work, and research shows that much of the career advice aimed at men doesn't even work for women. We’re left wondering: How do you say no without being labeled difficult? How do you get paid what you’re worth? Should you go for that next big promotion, even though it’ll impact your family? Known for being 2018’s most-booked female speaker in the world and now a nationally-syndicated talk show host, Mel Robbins answers these questions and more with research-based strategies that you can put into action immediately.

Tool Chest
Revisado: 10-02-19
This is a growth tool chest. Hearing the sessions unfold produces a palpable, immediate self-assessment and as with things like this, you have to practice. I like that Mel chooses empathy over judgement in her approach. It makes her message very powerful and accessible. The book is very useful.

Historia
Why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others? Why do some command greater loyalty from customers and employees alike? Even among the successful, why are so few able to repeat their successes over and over? People like Martin Luther King, Jr.; Steve Jobs; and the Wright Brothers might have little in common, but they all started with why. Their natural ability to start with why enabled them to inspire those around them and to achieve remarkable things.

Profound
Revisado: 10-31-18
"My big why is that the quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives," Esther Perel. This was a profound listening experience. Profound because I was ready to hear it. The weight of expectations and what we perceive to be how things should be is killing us; is killing me. I appreciate that Esther helps these people navigate their own reality and not societal expectations and/or personal, familial or traditional 'shoulds'.

Useful
Revisado: 10-26-18
A brilliantly written, useful book that I am sure I will revisit time and again. I was ready to hear this message and really appreciate the useful tips provided by the writer. It wasn't preachy, just practical and heartfelt. Richardson made it personal by sharing aspects of her own experience with self care or the lack thereof. I appreciate that. She also read it well in the audio version and the length of it is just right for me.

In today’s work environment, the lines between our professional and personal lives are blurred more than ever before. Whatever is happening to us outside of our workplace - whether stressful, painful, or joyful - follows us into work as well. We may think we have to keep these realities under wraps and act as if we “have it all together”. But as Mike Robbins explains, we can work better, lead better, and be more engaged and fulfilled if - instead of trying to hide who we are- we show up fully and authentically.

Brilliant ideas
Revisado: 09-20-18
I appreciate the conversational format of the essays and the writers' abilities to get to the point without being preachy or condescending. I can sense the editing in the work - no superfluous words as they advocate for a non-superfluous life. I enjoy the way the conversation extends way beyond decluttering. I have started this process myself and wondered what would/could be next after paring down. Joshua and Ryan provide good pointers but more importantly, their thesis is substantial - that of 'the why' of Minimalism. I am happy to learn that Minimalism is not just about getting rid of things but of cultivating a life of meaning and that this is not merely philosophical but very practical. Thanks to the writers for providing a way forward on this journey.

Historia
Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Daring Greatly by Brené Brown, read by Karen White. Every time we are introduced to someone new, try to be creative, or start a difficult conversation, we take a risk. We feel uncertain and exposed. We feel vulnerable. Most of us try to fight those feelings - we strive to appear perfect. In a powerful new vision, Dr. Brené Brown challenges everything we think we know about vulnerability and dispels the widely accepted myth that it's a weakness.

Grounded in humanity
Revisado: 07-01-18
I like Dr. Brene Brown's style - real and human and direct yet empathetic. I liked that she referenced her research without lacing the book with impersonal, science lab jargons and speech. The book is grounded in humanity and interesting research. I like the author's storytelling, conversational style that makes the difficult topic of vulnerability easier to digest. I will read the book again and again simply because it immerses one into the delicate art of being human in a blood sport kind of world. This book is a reminder if what it is to be human.
