Historia
Rufus Leung Gresham, future Earl of Greshambury and son of a former Hong Kong supermodel has a problem: the legendary Gresham Trust has been depleted by decades of profligate spending, and behind all the magazine covers and Instagram stories manors and yachts lies nothing more than a gargantuan mountain of debt. The only solution, put forth by Rufus’s scheming mother, is for Rufus to attend his sister’s wedding at a luxury eco-resort, a veritable who’s-who of sultans, barons, and oligarchs, and seduce a woman with money.

Interesting characters
Revisado: 05-03-25
The narrator drove me nuts with the strange starts and stops. It’s as though someone told her to pause between words where no one would pause naturally. Makes me worried she’s out of breath.

Historia
Lana Fleming’s sister has vanished from the set of TV’s hottest show, and no one seems to care. Desperate for answers, Lana sneaks in as an extra, only to get stranded with Griffin Hart, an A-list action star with a reputation for good abs and bad decisions. Though Griffin didn’t expect to be cast as a librarian’s sidekick in a real-life thriller, he’s weirdly into it—and into her. Even more unsettling—she sees right through his playboy persona. But their meet-cute soon turns deadly when they uncover a Hollywood scandal for the ages.

Content and delivery was super dull. The story was also populated with several unappealing characters. Difficult to want to be immersed in this world.

Pretty dismal and dark

Tone and content is far more depressing than most novels of this genre. Also, zero female character development.

Historia
Miss Venus Merriwell has been waiting for her prince to come since the tender age of fourteen. She wants a man who is selfless, academic like her, and free from all the wretched vices her gambler father enjoyed far too much before he left the Merriwell sisters practically destitute. Unfortunately, after a slew of romantic disappointments, there is still no sign of that prince at twenty-three and the only one true love of her life is the bursting-at-the-seams orphanage in Covent Garden that she works tirelessly for.

Cringe! Couldn’t stomach the male narrator

I’d suggest they try to re-do the narration. I’m afraid it ruins what might otherwise be an ok story.

Historia
Sophie Beckett never dreamed she'd be able to sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball - or that Prince Charming would be waiting there for her! Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie has been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. But now, spinning in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she feels like royalty. Alas, she knows all enchantments must end when the clock strikes midnight.

Not romantic; somehow both repulsive and dull.
Revisado: 05-31-24
In other romance stories there is some conflict or tension preventing the lovers from getting together, but the actions of the lovers have to be forgivable so that we readers will see the characters as good enough foe the partner and to deserve a happy ending. In this story the hero keeps doing and saying things the author seems to think equate to being decent, but which (at least by modern standards) would seem at the least wildly inconsiderate and probably abusive. The tension and actions taken aren’t exciting so much as plain ugly and brutal. I had trouble believing this was written by a woman, for instance, when an attempted gang rape is sloughed off very casually. It’s moments later, and the heroine is just super grateful and loving, not at all traumatized, and the hero isn’t at all concerned how she might be feeling. Threats and actual assaults happen with low provocation, too. After scenes like those, I just couldn’t get interested in the couple’s supposed happily ever after. Just couldn’t buy it.

Distracting inflection
Revisado: 03-21-24
I am never picky about the voice performer. In this case, I just couldn’t get past the distracting way the reader inserts up-and down inflections (if that’s the word for it) at seemingly random points in most sentences. Result is that statements sound like questions and there’s just a strange cadence. Voice acting is otherwise good, but the inflections threw me off.

Historia
I knew fixing up my life with a fresh start on the hobby ranch I inherited in Hell’s Bells, Wyoming, would come with challenges. Things like snow. Wildlife. Local gossip about why my daughter and I are here. But the biggest challenge? My surly new tenant. He’s like a bear. Fascinating from a distance, but don’t get too close, or he’ll bite. His personality should be a good thing. I have no need of a new man in my life. But he’s not only my tenant; he’s also my daughter’s math teacher and soccer coach.

Cringy, angry sexist “hero”
Revisado: 12-09-23
Guess I’d have to agree with the title — main character wasn’t my kind of hero. Parts of the book sound like the author is trying to be feminist, but really thinks romance is finding a hostile cowboy who seems to like the female lead only due to physical attraction.

Historia
Kitty Harris has it all: cosily coupled up with boyfriend Archie, she’s putting in the hours at an ad agency to land her dream job. OK, so maybe they’ve become a bit too comfortable in their routine, with pizza night every Thursday, and maybe the agency isn’t so much up-and-coming as been-and-gone, but Kitty is happy. Until one diamond ring sitting pretty in her pepperoni ruins everything. Kitty does NOT want to get married, not after being caught in the crosshairs of her parent’s destructive divorce.

Not appealing — kind of dull
Revisado: 11-27-23
I found it pretty disappointing that the heroine seemed so dim. Plot seemed lackluster, too. For instance, the author describes the romantic hero as beautiful, gorgeous, etc., but doesn’t build out the description of what makes the female lead see him that way… for example the particular characteristics she’s focusing on, or the deeds or words that triggered her seeing him as exceptional. The problems didn’t seem unique or interesting, either. The writing just wasn’t my cup of tea, I guess.

Sudden simplistic tie-up
Revisado: 06-04-23
One of the things I enjoy moss about reading mysteries is following the clues, seeing in the end how the mystery is resolved and everything makes sense in a way meaningful to the story. This one wasn’t super interesting, then the killer suddenly outs themself and the case is closed. Disappointing and definitely not as good as others in this series.
