Historia
Ear training is one of the most rewarding skills you can develop, and it’s one that you can work on every day. Which makes total sense: music is an aural experience, after all. Ear training helps you turn the music you hear into music you make on your guitar. This works for your own musical ideas, too: when you dream up a great riff or chord progression, you naturally want to sit down and play it right away. Ear training helps you do just that.

Errors in naming intervals make it unusable
Revisado: 11-20-21
I thought this would be great for my commute but after spending a lot of time with this I started to question if there were not considerable amounts errors in the editing of the book. An interval is played with each string plucked separately then together followed by the verbal answer. I started to notice that the same tones are sometimes given different interval names. Such as a minor 3rd called a major 3rd one time then later called a minor 3rd. When I checked on the guitar itself against the recording it appears that the tones are sporadically misidentified. At that point I stopped because you don't want to spend hours drilling only to teach your mind incorrect interval recognition. It's sort of the point of the whole book and I think whomever edited it together may have become less careful. After all it's not easy to error check without listening to it. I have noticed errors like this in other books on music theory and it's really important for it to be perfect. I can't trust this book to continue further with it any further since relative pitch is all about creating a memory of recognized sounds and if you learn them wrong youre in worse shape than before you started. I wish I could trust it because the way it's constructed is perfect for drilling but it must be error free.

The prolific drummer for the rock band Rush travels through African villages, both large and small, and relates his story through journal entries and tales of adventure, while simultaneously addressing issues such as differences in culture, psychology, and labels. Literary and artistic sidekicks such as Aristotle, Dante, and Van Gogh join Peart and his cycling companions, reminding the listener that this is not just another travel book - it is a story of both external and introspective discovery and adventure.

Revisado: 01-29-21
I left his first book for last because I just wasn't interested in the subject but I was very surprised to find it every bit as interesting as all the others. you really get no sense of who he is as a musician in the book. its just him on a month long bicycling trip across Africa with 4 strangers.

Revisado: 01-25-21
Coming from someone who would never have devoted time to this type of book, I found myself hooked on all his books. If your fan you owe it to yourself to go on tour with Neil and I think you will end up seeing him in a new way no matter what your mental picture may have been. I enjoy the introspective writing style, the narration is great and I'm glad he kept the same narrator on all his works. If you are Fan you will get more out of all his books, but taken just as they are with no context I think they would still be enjoyable.

Historia
For 30 years, drummer, author, and songwriter Neil Peart had wanted to write a book about "the biggest journey of all in my restless existence: the life of a touring musician." Finally, the right time, and the right tour. In the summer of 2004, after three decades, 20 gold albums, and thousands of performances, the band Rush embarked on a 30th Anniversary World Tour. The "R30" tour traveled to nine countries, where the band performed 57 shows for more than half a million fans. Uniquely, Peart chose to do his between-show traveling by motorcycle, riding 21,000 miles of back roads.

Revisado: 01-17-21
Of all of Neil's books this is my favorite. I have gone through all his works and all were great reads but I found this one to provide the most insight into the band on tour and their lives in general. Someone not familiar with Rush might not get a lot of the nuances and since this band is quite unique, their behavior on tour is not representative of the typical rock band being polite Canadians. I looked forward to my daily commute because I could pass the time with this book. if you were a fan a Neil or Rush then you owe it to yourself to read all his books they are a excellent.

Among the best I've read on the subject.
Revisado: 12-22-20
Well written and narrated. A look at what an expert at navigating the FOIA has accomplished since his early beginnings as a teenager to the present day. Sadly even this decades long effort has not uncovered the kind of proof everyone wishes was in plain sight. However, this book does show the subject was and is taken seriously by the government. A very enjoyable book if you at all interested in the subject.

A book about everything but practice
Revisado: 11-07-20
This book had decent reviews but I'm starting to question if they are real. you will be 5 chapters in before you get your first tip on practice. it's one sentence and the advice boils down to practice slow enough to be perfect. 95% of the words are about other things like how human hearing works or how the brain wirks and even how NASA conducted the search for explanets. thus one really had me scratch my head and went on so long that I though the subject of the book had changed entirely to space. He finally tried to tie it back to practice by saying NASA tried looking for planets one way that gave poor results and then they launched a probe that was better so of course that shows that there are better and worse ways to practice something. It feels like the author had a list of 5 items actually about practice and whole bunch of other subjects he was more interested in. He found a way to turn that into a book that could chew up a few hours of your time. Thankfully audible has a great policy of letting you return books and that's what I'm doing with this one. There is in reality, about as much useful information in this review on practice as you will get reading this book.

Historia
The music of Frank Sinatra, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and many other artists provides the score to the reflections of a musician on the road in this memoir of Neil Peart's travels from Los Angeles to Big Bend National Park. The emotional associations and stories behind each album Peart plays guide his recollections of his childhood on Lake Ontario, the first bands that he performed with, and his travels with the band Rush. The evocative and resonant writing vividly captures the meanderings of a musical mind.

Why did I wait so Long?
Revisado: 03-02-20
Neil was tremendous talent and I should have known that his writing skills were no less terrific. For some reason I never felt compelled to read his books. Not really into travel logs. But now I wished I had and I'm glad I finally did. Fortunately he left these experiences and thoughts for all time. A lifelong fan of the band, As he details his travels between the shows, I can recall where I was as he was on his way to and from a show that I attended. In a small way I'm part of these journeys. There is a lot here to enjoy even if you don't know who he was, The writing and the story telling is great. I'm glad I have more of his books to look forward to.

Revisado: 03-19-16
This is an intriguing premise but sadly the book does not provide any useful information. It is simply a collection of anecdotes most of which are simply boring and offer nothing new or in most cases nothing at all to take away with you. It's a bit like that old Steve Martin bit on how to become a millionaire "First, get a million dollars". Thankfully Audible lets you return books.
