Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Historia
Known to millions of Australians simply as "Smithy", Sir Charles Kingsford Smith was one of Australia's true twentieth-century legends. In an era in which aviators were superstars, Smithy was among the greatest and, throughout his amazing career his fame in Australia was matched only by that of Don Bradman.

Fascinating & Well Researched
Revisado: 01-26-13
What made the experience of listening to Charles Kingsford Smith and Those Magnificent Men the most enjoyable?
The breadth and depth of the research which included the history of flight. It was incredibly interesting and shed a lot of light on a period of history perhaps not that well know today.
What other book might you compare Charles Kingsford Smith and Those Magnificent Men to and why?
I've read a few other biographical books by Peter Fitzsimons and this is in the same genre. As usual the research is excellent.
What does Richard Aspel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Overall I liked Richard Aspel's performance - it was very colourful and animated but in a couple of places it felt slightly theatrical.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I really admired the courage and determination of the pioneers of flight and the difficulties they had to contend with.
Any additional comments?
A great and very interesting read particularly for anyone interested in Australian history and flight.

Terrible recording & monotonous reader
Revisado: 05-12-12
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Loved the story but I couldn't get beyond the background noise in this recording and the dull monotonous reading by the narrator. It was really sub-standard.
Any additional comments?
Please get a good narrator like Shelly Frasier to do this audiobook. Her rendition of Book 1 in the series was just superb - the colourful vocal inflections and emotions portrayed in that reading made listening to that audiobook a real joy.

Historia
In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

Great content but totally pathetic narration
Revisado: 04-08-11
For me this is a fantastically researched, interesting and stimulating book totally ruined by the most pathetic narration I have heard in my 5 year membership with Audible. I could tolerate the dreary monologue voice that other reviewers have commented on, but what ultimately ruined this book for me and why I stopped listening to it is that it is read at such a ridiculously fast speed that it makes listening to, and absorbing the content almost impossible without a great deal of frustration and annoyance.
The book needs to be re-narrated by a professional and then re-supplied for free to the people who have already lashed out the money for it because the current offering is a joke!!! Very sad indeed that such an important audiobook could be so badly mangled & ultimately ruined by sub-standard narration.

Exciting and Riveting
Revisado: 07-31-08
This is a great story - it's riveting listening. I couldn't put it down once I started. The narrator is excellent and very easy to listen to. The pace is fast and exciting in the typical Ken Follet fashion. I've listened to 3 of Ken Follets novels on audiobook and this has been the best so far.
