Crappy writing
Revisado: 11-18-18
Before I go into why I left such a terrible review, let me preface it with, the narrator did an okay job with the crap he was given. For narration about business, he did a good job. Could have done slightly less monotone, in my opinion, but how much voice inflection can we really expect in this style of book? 4 stars for being the only bearable part of this experience.
Now that that’s out of the way: I have Several complaints. I’ll only voice 3 here.
1: the author did a crappy job writing. The style was “thesis/idea followed by facts” which is one way to do it, and I’m not judging. But the way the writing is done is backwards. Instead of formulating clever one-liners and backing them up with facts, this writer just wrote random words down and tried to pawn it off as the continuation of the previous thought. And this snowballs in each section of the book.
Perfect example: This is after discussing the need for battery banks for 5 minutes (without giving details on the power bank, how to construct one, companies that can do one for you, or resources you can use to determine what’s right for your needs, like a good author should, btw): “...and on that thought: green smoothies. Because you need to energize your body to fully...” look, that’s random. trying to justify it as “body power” isn’t tying it into what we’ve been discussing. It’s not clever. It’s annoying, and this happens throughout the entire book. Truly awful, and detracts from what could have been a great advice giving book.
2: Jesus. Look, I’m a Christian. I can accept praise to god here and there in a book or art form. I get it, I do...but the authors praise seems half hearted at best, and is worked in places that don’t really make sense. On top of that, it’s worked in as a random afterthought, so it doesn’t even feel like it belongs in this book. best leave Jesus in prayer, and if you’re gonna praise him, do it with feeling.
3: the advice is crap. For a book dedicated to giving advice on finances/financing a lifestyle, it reads more like a “here’s a vague description of what I did, hope this helps.” Kinda book...honestly, I didn’t even hear any sources until the last 10 minutes. The content is just terrible, and the few good ideas presented are unoriginal.
Even for a book written in 2016. “Did you know you could make money with a successful YouTube channel” is just lousy. Everyone knows you can make money on a successful YouTube channel, even in 2016. The problem is, the YouTube channel has to be successful (1 in a million chance). And that’s the good, detailed advice that was given. That or “try to see if you can telework so you don’t have to quit your job in the first place.” No shit. But babbling on nonsensically about passive income like people don’t all try to get these income strings? For 10 minutes in a 90 minute book? That’s annoying.
I normally am not super critical of books. If I don’t like one, I’ll just not review it and quietly trade it for a different book with audible...but this book is a dumpster fire. It shouldn’t have been published, in my honest opinion. I hope my review helps anyone trying to buy a book from this source select literally any other book out there.

is there more?
Revisado: 08-08-18
After finishing these 4 titles, I haven't been this enthralled by a story in a long time! The story was so intricate, and the final chapter makes me want to go back and re-listen to the entire series again....but is this it? Is there a book 5 coming? I hope so, it still feels like there's something missing in the denouement. I'll have to keep an eye out for another book.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Holy crap
Revisado: 06-02-18
As a military man, I thought this book would be an interesting distraction, and wasn’t expecting the terminology to be as accurate as it was.
Then the climax of the story happened. Holy crap, the comic relief at that point was so fucking good, and kept me laughing like a maniac as I drove through traffic laughing like a bad Batman villain...or a good Batman villain...I bought this on a whim, and will be buying the next book in the series when I get the time.

Historia
Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

Absolutely amazing
Revisado: 04-19-18
I decided to download this book because I’m a fan of the author and will Wheaton’s performance in “ready player one”. It was very well done, so I figured I’d try this one as well.
I could not have been more overjoyed with this decision.
The combination of Will Wheaton’s amazing voice acting mixed with the story itself in an odd mix that made the drama seem even more surreal. As Ernest Cline writes in both novels “I found myself slipping into ‘the zone’.”
As an emotionally and mentally centered adult male of our species, I like to think I have a pretty solid command of my emotions and thoughts. This book made me fantasize about the conspiracy theories it based on, and made me laugh out loud, even cry at parts of the story that were phenomenally written.
I would recommend this story to anyone who wants a wonderful escape from reality. However, if you’re like me and listen to most of your audiobooks in traffic; you may want to refrain. I can only imagine how insane I looked reacting to this book the way I did in traffic...especially as I reached the end and listened to the epilogue...random bursts of laughter interrupting tears...seriously, I probably looked insane as the denouement hit me like a freight train.

Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Amazing book!
Revisado: 03-15-18
I’m so glad I got this audiobook! I loved every second of this story, and once I got started, I couldn’t put it away! There’s aspects of this story that I think everyone can relate to and enjoy!
On an aside: Something really amazing and surreal about Will Wheaton calling himself a geezer!
