So much depth and behind-the-scenes detail in these snippets! Great narration and sound effects too. A very polished production.

Least Romantic Bridgerton Story
Revisado: 10-09-22
Like many fans, I came to know the TV series before the books, and came back to read the origin stories of each Bridgerton romance. So far this one is my least favorite and I find it the least romantic.
!!! SPOILER ALERT !!!
One common thread among the series is most of the female protagonists suffer from low self-esteem and an inferiority complex. They never feel complete on their own without the adoration and validation of their male suitors. Penelope was mistreated throughout her story, both by her family and Colin. At one point, Colin betrays her by telling his friends how he would never court Penelope Featherington, and he makes good on that promise. He never does properly court her and instead issues a matter-of-fact proposal that comes off as most of an obligation to uphold his honor and not make him a boor, than something done out of love and devotion. He spends more than half the novel feeling unspoken jealousy for Penelope's accomplishments and attempting to control and manipulate her out of being Lady Whistledown.
Penelope, for her part, is painted as plain, fat, clumsy and unlovable, as if Colin's awakening and recognizing her inner beauty and worth is her redemption arc. I feel like her character should have discovered that self-love first on her own. Colin should've had to work for her, going against his earlier boastful assertion that he never would.

Truly Life Changing!
Revisado: 06-23-16
I've had a very rough life, especially in my fundamental years. In addition, I suddenly lost my mother to septicemia 10 years ago. For 20 years, I have struggled with the weight of a lot of emotional baggage, including unfinished issues with my mother and others that needed forgiveness. The first time that I heard this audiobook, I had to take breaks, because Laura Lynne would mention something that resounded as truth to me and it would make me cry. She did an EXCELLENT job both writing and narrating her book, and I'm already on my second listen through. She touches on so many topics that all of us experience or fear - loss of a loved one, death, life purpose and even our own intuition. The most important takeaway from listening to this book though was that love and relationships continue and can even strengthen after death separates you physically.
After my first run through this book, I researched a certified psychic medium through the Forever Family Foundation, and had a reading where my mother came through and put a lot of my issues to rest, and I've been left with a fierce love for her, forgiveness and (finally) peace. I wouldn't have even known about FFF if it hadn't been for Laura Lynne.

Pleasantly Surprised and Worth A Listen
Revisado: 10-23-12
I ended up purchasing this audiobook from one of those surprise popup sales that Audible had, and I am so glad that I did. This is a great book and a touching story of the many facets of love: love for family members that crosses boundaries (even death), romantic love and that familial kind of love when close friends become like family. I loved the poetry and appreciation of nature's beauty that were interwoven into this story. The best moments in this story are the ones in the forest bedroom. Len and Joe are such a sweet couple, and I just wish there was more written on their relationship at the end. :)
