Historia
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

This book should absolutely be required reading for anyone who does not get enough sleep either by choice or due to difficulty sleeping. It presents an extremely compelling case for the mental and physical benefits of obtaining enough sleep. Stop reading this review and buy this book.

Historia
American democracy is at an impasse. After years of zero-sum partisan trench warfare, our political institutions are deteriorating. Our norms are collapsing. Democrats and Republicans no longer merely argue; they cut off contact with each other. In short, the two-party system is breaking our democracy, and driving us all crazy.

Separates the cause from the symptoms
Revisado: 12-30-20
This is the book I’ve been looking for for a long time. It’s the first one I’ve read that actually identifies the root cause of our broken political system instead of bemoaning how this or that politician is at fault. A broken system requires systematic change. No one politician can be blamed for this mess, but rather the broken system of incentives that motivate bad behavior and toxic partisanship. This book finally provides a playbook for how to get out of our current two party doom loop.

Historia
In The Politics Industry, Katherine Gehl and Michael Porter ingeniously apply the tools of business analysis - and Porter's distinctive Five Forces framework - to show how the political system functions just as every other competitive industry does, and how the duopoly has led to the devastating outcomes we see today. Using this competition lens, Gehl and Porter identify the most powerful lever for change - a strategy comprised of a clear set of choices in two key areas: how our elections work and how we make our laws.

The definitive work on protecting American democracy
Revisado: 09-28-20
This book is the most powerful argument for political innovation and reform that I have ever read. It correctly treats our political problems as symptoms of a public institution that has been hijacked by a private industry. It then clearly lays out the reforms that are required to realign political incentives for the benefit of the people. A must read for anyone who wants to make a real difference in politics today.

Historia
From the United States and Britain to continental Europe and beyond, liberal democracy is under siege, while authoritarianism is on the rise. In Twilight of Democracy, Anne Applebaum, an award-winning historian of Soviet atrocities who was one of the first American journalists to raise an alarm about antidemocratic trends in the West, explains the lure of nationalism and autocracy. In this captivating essay, she contends that political systems with radically simple beliefs are inherently appealing, especially when they benefit the loyal to the exclusion of everyone else.

Absolutely Fantastic
Revisado: 09-16-20
Twilight of Democracy is deeply thought provoking and eye opening. Applebaum clearly traces the lines of authoritarianism and illiberalism through the recent histories of various western countries. I would not consider this book a treatise of the political left or right, but rather an indictment of totalitarian one-party states and their precursors that can be found at both ends of the political spectrum. Everyone who is concerned about the decline of democracy in the western world needs to read this book!

Honestly, I’m more of a non-fiction reader, but when I need a good story to lose myself in, I know I can’t go wrong with Brandon Sanderson. This one is excellent from beginning to end and leaves you wanting more. I love the concept, and I love the characters. I can’t wait to read the next one.

A Good Approach to Negotiation
Revisado: 01-03-20
This book has a lot of really good advice and great anecdotes for illustration. Two things that I didn’t like as much: first, I feel like the book could have been half as long and still gotten the same message across; second, advice and anecdotes are great, but real science is so much better, which this book lacked.
