Historia
College student Joe Talbert has the modest goal of completing a writing assignment for an English class. His task is to interview a stranger and write a brief biography of the person. With deadlines looming, Joe heads to a nearby nursing home to find a willing subject. There he meets Carl Iverson, and soon nothing in Joe's life is ever the same. Carl is a dying Vietnam veteran-and a convicted murderer. With only a few months to live, he has been medically paroled to a nursing home after spending thirty years in prison for the crimes of rape and murder.

Well written, but predictable SPOILERS
Revisado: 12-13-23
In the first couple chapters it's pretty easy to guess who the killer is, which I guess I didn't mind because the writing itself was done well. I thought the most interesting stuff were the parts where Joe had to deal with his familial problems, the mother felt like a very real example of a verbally abusive and manipulative person.
There is a graphic descriptions of rape of an underage girl which I could've done without, and which also includes the phrase of "his explosion" which was really gross on the writer's part.
Joe also does one of the DUMBEST things emaginable, I really couldn't believe it since everything else he did seemed like he had a good head on his shoulders. He literally goes to confront the person who he believes is the killer BY HIMSELF. There are just so many reasons why that would be one of the worst things to do EVER when trying to pin down your suspect for a murder, like HELLO??
Overall, I don't really recommend this book. Maybe for the fact that it's free on audible right now, that's the only reason I listened to this. For the price of free it's not bad, but if I had used a credit on this or actually bought it I'd be disappointed.

Bolinda has my favorite audiobook production
Revisado: 06-11-22
Before this I've listened to the Deltora Quest series and I was super pleased with those. However I SO wish they were read by this narrator instead. I love her Australian accent and how she puts inflection into the characters without taking you out of the story.

Didn't hold up for me
Revisado: 06-11-22
I remembered liking this book more when I was younger, but as I went through the audiobook for it I remembered in truth that it wasn't one of my most favorites compared to my other dragon books I loved. I also normally love Brendan Fraser, and I can admire the amount of accents he can do... however I thought most of them used for this story were very annoying (especially Twigleg), and Sorrel sounded like Craig Ferguson instead of a small female creature. Which, yes, I realize being narrated by a male actor it's going to sound masculine. But there was such an emphasis on that accent that it made it sound EXTREMELY masculine. His normal narration voice otherwise sounded like he was falling asleep at times, which I guess I preferred than the lisps and sputterings of other characters. Overall I think I would have liked the audiobook more if it had been narrated by someone with a feminine voice, or if the accents were omitted, since Brendan's voice was pleasant to listen to when it was his own.

stop the bad music
Revisado: 02-05-20
I've grown up with these books and I have loved them my whole life. excellently written, the narrator is good too. however, this book in particular had an excess of really bad music that would take me out of the book at times.
