Historia
Each December, the faculty of Balaclava Agricultural College goes wild with holiday decorations. The entire campus glitters with Christmas lights, save for one dark spot: the home of Professor Peter Shandy. But after years of resisting the school's Illumination festival, Shandy suddenly snaps, installing a million-watt display of flashing lights and blaring music perfectly calculated to drive his neighbors mad. Then the horticulturalist flees town, planning to spend Christmas on a tramp steamer. He returns home to find his lights extinguished - and a dead librarian in his living room.

love the characters and setting
Revisado: 10-11-24
This was entertaining, quirky, and fun to follow along. Witty dialogue, engaging personalities, good plot, and a solid narrator make this enjoyable -mostly. A mild profanity here and there I can tolerate but not the blasphemy -just too much of that. This was my first and my last listen for this series.

leap in to this series
Revisado: 05-22-24
Alan Gordon delights with the Jester series, wish there were more. Great depth of characters, settings, history and a good deal of humor and intrigue throughout. Narrator was good but not great. Hoping Audible will do more in this series . Farewell for now, Feste, and Claudia!

Sorry, didn't finish
Revisado: 11-09-23
I lost interest in the story and just decided to let it go. Lots of dialogue, characters refecting on their feelings, and much detail about the intricacies of their jobs, etc. The story just seemed to get lost. The narration was also a factor: some of the characters voices sounded nearly robotic and most came across a bit stilted.

Revisado: 11-06-22
A worthy rendering of Dickens' classic story. Narrator Simon Prebble handles the emotional tone of the story beautifully throughout. A joy to listen to this again, and again.

Every liberal on campus hated the crotchety old crank, but which one is responsible for giving Markham his final push to the right? somewhat entertaining
Revisado: 09-22-22
Although lively at times (good narrator) this one just fell flat. It seemed contrived, drawn out, and filled with Archieisms and Wolfeisms. The tale entirely comes to a logical but unsatisfying conclusion.

Historia
Eleanor, the charming manager of a cozy tea shop, enjoys the transportive ritual of making a cup of Masala Chai tea, reminisces about the tea's origins, and delights in the beauty of her quaint English village during the holidays. Bedtime stories are narrated by the world's most celebrated voices and written with no beginning, middle, or end so you don't stay up to hear what happens next. They're interesting enough to give your mind something to focus on, but delivered in a way that encourages sleep.
