Virgil character and narrator off

I liked the story. I liked Lucus and Virgil working together. Contrary to some other reviews, I thought that the new narrator worked for Lucus. Lucus seemed a bit more mellow then in some of the other books, but that was probably just a reflection of our times and was okay with me. Virgil's character seemed a bit off. I actually have grown to like the Flowers books at least as much as the Prey books, but in this book, Virgil seems to have lost some of his charm. There were times when I wondered if John Sanford had really written the book. It may be the narrator as I don't think that he captures my image of Virgil particularly well.

I have read the entire series. To me this was one of the best. The clues were right there — I didn’t get them and Virgil didn’t get them. Perfect

Pendergast back at his best

Pendergast back at his best. To me the Pendergast novels are first and foremost good mysteries set in fascinating places. For a time the novels seemed to have meandered off the path, returning in the last and following in this. There were enough references to the historical line for the cognoscenti to see while not distracting from the story. His relationship with the FBI took on a new reality that actually felt possible. Cold Moon was an interesting foil that I would like to meet again.

I have read all of the Pendergast novels. At their heart are high quality mysteries within fascinating arcane historic backgrounds. The Diogenes sub theme was always a distraction and I was relieved when he (sort of) died. Hopefully he will now stay out if the picture. More novels like this one will keep me hooked for some time to come.

Fascinating Historical Novel

This was a fascinating historical novel around the evolution of early mountain climbing and the the external perspective on the risks of Nazism between WWI and WWII. The story held my interest, but it is not a crisp thriller. I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in early mountaineering.

What did you like best about The Alexandria Connection? What did you like least?

The book had enough mystery to hold my interest, more or less, to complete the book; but the story was mostly a platform for the author to proselytize his leftist, anti-captalist, pro-radical environmentalist, anti-religion, anti-Israel viewpoints. He is certainly entitled to his points of view but in the name of science he misstates the science on both sides of the issue of global warming, overstating the certainty of mainstream scientists on various issues in support of global warming (which I believe in) and portraying the views of some radical right crazies as the view of mainstream America. His underlying thesis seems to be that environmentally responsible politicians only stand a chance of being elected in the aftermath of catastrophic terrorists attacks coupled with a suicidally stupid opponent.

Would you ever listen to anything by Adrian d’Hagé again?

I would absolutely not read anything by Adrian d'Hage again.

What about Sean Mangan’s performance did you like?

Sean Mangan's performance was reasonably well done, but with the story, he couldn't help but coming across at times as if he were giving a lecture on the author's propaganda.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I would have no interest in this book being made a movie.

What did you love best about What Every BODY Is Saying?

Book delivered what was promised. Some reviews criticize the material as "dry" but it the book is non-fiction instruction, not a story.

What about Paul Costanzo???s performance did you like?

I thought that the performance was well done and appropriate for the material.

Any additional comments?

The audio makes frequent references to a pdf of illustrations that is supposed to accompany the audio version of the book. I never did figure out how to get the pdf. If I had known this in advance, I would have purchased an e-book or paperback, if I couldn't figure out how to get the pdf.
