Historia
It’s a ghost town, this place that haunts me, the one that made me. It’s clear to me that I’ll never outgrow Triple Falls or outlive the time I spent here. I can still feel them all, my boys of summer. Even when I'd sensed the danger, I gave in. I didn’t heed a single warning. I let my sickness and my love both rule and ruin me. I played my part, eyes wide open, tempting fate until it delivered. There was never going to be an escape. All of us are to blame for what happened. All of us are serving our own sentences.

ZERO spoilers :)
This was a damned ride, that is for sure. I honestly can say that I've never felt so many emotions in one book...I cried (A LOT), among all the other feelings. This was like a whole world had changed from the first book. So much changes....so MUCH.
Overall, it was actually heavy, really heavy. Can't remember if this is YA or not, but if it is, it is mistakenly categorized. There is so much depth (and monologues, love 'em or hate 'em), that for the first time in a long time, I've actually felt changed after reading such a book; truly made me rethink things in my own life.
I'm happy with the ending, but not fully satisfied. I didn't listen to the preview for book 3, but maybe there's an ironic reason it ends the way it does, but I don't want to spoil anything by hinting at what the irony is.
Kudos to the author- major kudos. I'm not sure how this isn't a movie yet. The story is so unique and complex, that it's exciting in itself that I'm not reading yet another story of the obligatory romance novels. I feel as if I grew and changed right along with Cecilia, and there are no other words!
Narrators are both phenomenal. I'm in love with the guy's voice, and will probably follow other books he's done, just because of him.

Historia
Prodigal Summer weaves together three stories of human love within a larger tapestry of lives in southern Appalachia. At the heart of these intertwined narratives is a den of coyotes that have recently migrated into the region. Deanna Wolfe, a reclusive wildlife biologist, watches them from an isolated mountain cabin where she is caught off-guard by Eddie Bondo, a young hunter who comes to invade her most private spaces and her solitary life.

Not at all what I expected!
Revisado: 01-25-24
Overall great story. It's really interesting, but it's not a "light" read, as in you need to pay attention to the story line and everything in general.
The story follows three different sets of lives, but also shows how interconnected everything and everyone is. I took me some time to get into the story, but once I did, it was very rewarding to see everything play out...or start to play out, depending on perspective. I think this book requires a certain level of intellect or interest in biology, the study of life in general a the very least.
If you're looking for a big romance, adventure, beginning, middle, end, or any of those, this book is both all of that, and also none of that. I recommend it. :)

Good enough to buy the second!
Revisado: 06-23-23
I really enjoyed this story overall. I think what detracted from the feel that the author was perhaps going for was the voice actor when she played Eve. Sometimes, it was a little too much and too aggressive, and while the character was described in such a way, I think that it was almost like the actor was trying too hard. I found myself getting frustrated with Eve a few times... In addition to that, the story between the two main characters seemed to progress a little too quickly for my taste, and I think I was hoping to see more character development and relationship development between the two... this did, thowever, have a good mixture of thrill, romance, action, suspense, etc.
The setting was really cool. It was futuristic, but not too far from possible reality. The updated names of locations and certain electronics was definitely immersive and put you in the story. This is not one of my genres that I typically go for, but I did purchase the second book.

I kept stopping the story and wondering wth am I listening to here...then I'd hit play again, but I ended up returning it when Jake's narrator came in on chapter 4... terrible robotic voice with staccato inflections made everything that much worse.
This girl is SEVENTEEN and he's got kids older than her!!! How is that romantic????
I'm glad I returned it. Sorry, not sorry. I'll go so far as to say that this isn't a healthy story for young minds to delve into.

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

The Wonder of Good and Evil Never Ceases...
Revisado: 07-04-22
This is not my regular genre; it was recommended to me by someone that I took up on, after mulling it over for two years (yes, two years lol).
While this wasn't what I usually reach for, the amount of wonder through the historical facts and reimaginings of events was so well timed that I never bored, nor shied away from the story. This is a very well written story of two storylines taking turns throughout a very exciting, but tumultuous time in the US.
I encourage you to read this, whoever you are.

Edward Fasbender is a devil. He’s my father's biggest rival. He takes what he wants, and he bows to no one. And now Edward Fasbender wants me. I didn’t expect to want him back. Having him is not in the cards, not when a union with him would destroy my father. But that doesn’t mean I can’t play with him a bit. Except, I’ve never played against such a ruthless opponent. Edward is cold and vicious, and my blood has never run hotter. They say you should choose the devil you know, but I've always preferred long odds. Even if it'll get me slain.

Profound if you pay attention
Revisado: 05-06-22
Wow where do I begin? There are so many little things that as I was listening, I wanted to mention in the review but of course now that it's over I'm just kind of dumb struck and in awe.
I do not get moved to tears in books very often.. in fact I cannot really remember when the last time was that I actually cried but this story and the diction is profound.
The writer is very talented and most definitely has a way with words. There are many, many not so subtle nods to religion as The Mysteries are referred to. Regardless of your own religious beliefs, it's a fantastic story. Absolutely fantastic. If you've enjoyed the series thus far, keep it going for sure.

It's definitely for YA...
Revisado: 03-20-22
eh, I got pretty tired of this series quite quickly and honestly, just had a few free credits I needed to spend before they expired and I was curious how the story ended...it's cute. Too cute. I called everything coming up, predicted so many lines, and the cheesyness was intense. I think if I were about 15 years younger, maybe I'd be able to appreciate this more, so it's definitely for young adults...or teens to be specific.
Cute story though- I'm sure that's not what the author was going for but none the less.

Sunset Park is gone. People are missing. Sylvie, Eric, and the other survivors have crossed the water to the security of a new Safe Zone, where they hope to heal their battered hearts, amass an armory, and get back at the ones who took it all away. But with zombies on the move and few resources to speak of, it’s harder than expected to plot their revenge. For some, it’s harder still to garner their resolve, since vengeance means more of them will die. But safety is ephemeral in a city where food is short and tensions are high. It seems fate may leave them no choice but to fight.

WOW. What a phenomenal story. I'm going to admit that they almost lost me halfway through the last story, but this one was so captivating!
TWD has nothing on this (probably because the writer knows when to stop hahaha). Seriously though, if you have come this far with this series, this is a must read. Fantastic ending with a few twists that I thought I was able to catch on to but surprises you constantly!
And as always with this series, I cannot say enough about the voice actors. You really forget that there are only two people! Bravo!!!!
Make this into a movie or show!!!!!!
