After that, he drifted for several years before re-turning home to his parents’ house, where he took up painting, largely self-taught with books on anatomy and painting. His great works all date from the later years of his life.

Awesome book, to look and compare almost all of the known works. Nice reproductions, just wish the book went all of the way and provided a full colour pic of every painting of a decent size, and without having a picture spread over the binding. Just have two painting per page, or one spread horizontally over one page. There is a smaller sized, lighter version of this book if you want a cheaper or easier to carry around version
