Historia
Marvin Deitz has some serious problems. His mob-connected landlord is strong-arming him out of his storefront. His therapist has concerns about his stability. He's compelled to volunteer at the local Children's Hospital even though it breaks his heart every week. Oh, and he's also the guilt-ridden reincarnation of Geoffroy Thérage, the French executioner who lit Joan of Arc's pyre in 1431. He's just seen a woman on a Los Angeles talk show claiming to be Joan, and absolution seems closer than it's ever been . . . but how will he find her?

Historia
When Jac first sees the House, she’s counting down to the five-year anniversary of her cancer diagnosis, when she hopefully will be declared NED, or “no evidence of disease.” But with a house appearing, and her hands shaking, and a fall off her bike, Jac is starting to wonder if these are symptoms—or if something stranger is happening. Two classmates dare Jac and her friend Hazel to enter the House. Walking through the front door is the way in. It’s definitely not the way out. There’s something off about the House; Jac can feel it

Difficult subject matter that was handled beautifully. Definitely spooky at parts but nothing too gory for kids. Strong female character that I rooted for. Definitely recommend.

Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

One of the best books ever. Excellent performance
Revisado: 02-07-25
I had never read The Winds of War before. I decided to give it a try for my birthday since it was on the NYT bestseller list the year of my birth (1972). I just turned 53 and was blown away. The performance was excellent. The production incredible. This should be read by everyone at least once. I never saw the miniseries. I can't wait to follow up with War and Remembrance. I love the Henry family and can't wait to see what happens to them

Historia
Norman Mailer's Pulitzer Prize-winning and unforgettable classic about convicted killer Gary Gilmore now in audio. Arguably the greatest book from America's most heroically ambitious writer, The Executioner's Song follows the short, blighted life of Gary Gilmore who became famous after he robbed two men in 1976 and killed them in cold blood. After being tried and convicted, he immediately insisted on being executed for his crime. To do so, he fought a system that seemed intent on keeping him alive long after it had sentenced him to death.

Compelling story and some excellent narration at times.
Revisado: 01-17-25
I had never heard of this story. This book was recommended to me because I loved In Cold Blood. Mailer does an exceptional job at breaking down the events that led up to execution of Gilmore. This is a character heavy book. Extremely well written and researched. I did think the narrator did a good to sometimes excellent job. There were however very many mispronounced words as stated in other reviews. Gilmore letters and tapes especially the ones to or about Nicole are sexually graphic. It may be hard for some listeners to hear it out loud. An important story that will stick with me. I'll probably do a relisten next year as I feel that it would be worth it. A must read.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

As a long time King fan, I struggled with this one. Great beginning and a good ending. I'm not a big fantasy fan and this is straight fantasy. Definitely not horror. Excellent main characters and a strong performance made it pretty good.
