I was thoroughly engrossed by this book and learned for the first time of the struggles of the Osage. It is an important story to tell. it's a shame these poor people lost so many in such tragic ways. a true corruption story. The author lost me when describing so much about the FBI's formation and Agent White. Even though I loved both narrators, the switch bothered me as well. I have three hours left on the book and I pray I don't hear any more about agent White and his agents. it just wasn't what I thought I was buying. Great writer, felt like he needed more to make an entire book so he went on a tangent. It's connected, yes, but deadens one's ears to the Osage story with the dull end.

Unfortunately, I have listened for about five hours and nothing has happened except a girl being institutionalized and that extremely drawn out in detail. I like descriptive writing, but when it is about different characters, locations, and events. The narrators in this book were outstanding! It was read at just the perfect rate. Not sure I will finish this title. What a sad choice for a vacation listen. By the description, I was looking forward to it. No mystery, only grotesque detail and sadness. If you have lost a child or given one up for adoption. Do not read this!

I struggled to listen to the sample. All I could hear was, "she said" or " he said." Somehow these words just jump out at you. As a teacher, even my second graders learn that "Said is dead!" There are much more specific abd I interesting word choices to use, I suggest the author tries it.

Read a historical newspaper instead.

Gave up, there seemed to be no storyline but just and endless introduction of characters and locations after hours of listening. Nothing except death and a couple of weddings happened. Feels like you are listening to someone read the newspaper, but with more flowery language.
