quality book that's worth the time. the person and location for recording this could be much better. only audible book where I've heard background noise in the recording from metal clanking, water glasses being set on tables and the microphone didn't have any kind of condem on it to muffle ambient noise. the performer isn't that bad but it sounds like the recording was done in someone's living room, not in a booth where ambient noise could be controlled.

highly recommend the book though.

I've read Sowellxs articles before and heard his interviews before. this was the first of his books I've read. simply brilliant.

summarizing what this work is about isn't easy. it's a mix of his skilled and highly trained view as an economist of the history of minorities, slavery, political movements and thought. he talks about the history of Germany, jews in Germany, the falsehoods people thing about nazi hegemony in Germany during their reign, middleman minorities, and how these cultural events contrast with the history of blacks in the United states. he addresses schooling and what works and why black intellect, achievement and wealth has regressed in the wake of the great society programs instituted during the 60s and 70s and the consequences that all kinds of statistics back up. he also begins the book explaining where American black hood culture comes from and draws a correlation with the ulster Scots in southern Scotland and how American blacks expropria

if you want a red pill on the "dark ages" and how all of the great things of the current era, which are sadly decaying, owe their debt to the Christian church, particularly in catholicism, this is the perfect book. it's concise while also jam packed with information that never feels pedantic.

it's only going to be convincing to those open to having the narrative upset but it's very persuasive if you're open to hear.

... with an incisive wit and a keen grasp of what every other journalist seems to miss about what really drives right wing politics at the moment. his accounting of major voices in the movement and how they contradict the major media accounting of their ideologies is necessary reading for any politically literate person to add to their intellectual repertoire. he brings into sharp focus where the media narrative about resurgent ideological white supremacy gets it wrong and what it gets right about the movement and the nuance thereof.

Let me first say that I'm a fan of Hannah Rosin from other work in journalism such as Invisibilia, and her Slate and New republic articles. Her name is largely what brought me to this book as she is generally adept at presenting what research is telling us about sexual politics in the workplace and on greater culture and she does so mostly masterfully and without bias here. As a man reading this work I did unfortunately have the feeling that more than a little too often the text (probably not the author for reasons I explain later in the review) revels a bit too much in the loss in status and purpose that men seem to be undergoing. Some of the examples given are comical and a bit of Schadenfreude is to be expected from women on this subject but the text makes a misstep when it doesn't see the rise of female violence as a negative of the new paradigm we live in. I say the text also because I did some research (this didn't seem like the voice of Rosin that I'm familiar with) and I uncovered some details which seems like the editor for this collection probably made some of these changes to pitch itself more to a certain feminist audience than to the general republic. all those complaints aside though, it's an incredibly well researched book which points out how our social paradigm is changing rapidly and arguably for the better. the example from south Korea of the success of the rising class of business women is inspiring if difficult for a conservative culture coming to grips with the changes and to hear that some out the examples of feminists utopias in the work force were actually coming from my backyard in Alabama tickled me to my core. it's a worthwhile read and the final chapters cap the work perfectly.

great guidelines for ordering a life that hits on a variety of different fields of being. he touches on everything from healthy eating, raising children, emotional side effects of posture, the value of a good sense of humor. I think it's one of the best books on personal development on the market.
