Historia
Death has a voice. The wanderer knew that, for he had heard that voice often enough. And as he walked through the village of Alhs, past the corpses of those who had chosen to stay, he heard it again. He heard it in the rasp of the wind along the eaves of the abandoned homes he passed, heard it in the slow, methodical banging of window shutters with no one to secure them.

I love that Michael Kramer narrated it. He’s perfect and I wish he did more of Jacob’s books. His voice is great for the characters, male and female!

Historia
The man who became known as Esrahaddon is reported to have destroyed the world’s greatest empire—but there are those who believe he saved it. Few individuals are as divisive, but all agree on three facts: He was exiled to the wilderness, hunted by a goblin priestess, and sentenced to death by a god—all before the age of eight. How he managed to survive and why people continued to fear his name a thousand years later has always been a mystery...until now.

Fabulous as Always
Revisado: 09-19-23
I loved this book and can see how it bridges a gap but I do think it left a couple of things unanswered. I don’t want to give any spoilers so will say, even though I have questions, the things left unwritten were not so disturbing as to minimize my enjoyment of the whole.
Thanks Michael for your great stories and thanks TGR for your wonderful narration. You are by far my favorite narrator.

Historia
Will’s journey from naïve apprentice to a mature wizard is almost complete, and his ever-growing mastery has reached unseen heights. But his power does not exist in a vacuum. His rising star threatens to eclipse the existing powers and a new balance must be found, one that either accepts his primacy or extinguishes his light. After Will’s resounding successes in the war with Darrow, the king plots to eliminate his young rival. Driven to desperation, Will is forced to negotiate for scraps between four brokers of power.

Don't let the haters win!
Revisado: 03-25-23
I have to say, I didn't listen to this book right away because of all the hate, and I'm really sad I let it delay me. That will never happen again. So if you've been delaying reading or listening because of the review, I say don't do what I did, listen to this book right away.
First, To those that hated the ending I say grow up, life doesn't always work out as planned and it takes a very brave and good author to follow the story instead of succumbing to pressure from "fans" who may not like it becase they always expect a happily ever after type of ending all tied up with a pretty pink bow. I thought, while hard and sad, the choices Will made were valid and justified and went along with who he was as a person. If he had given in and just accepted Selene's choices, all he had fought for and believed would have been for nothing, and to me that would have been false.
Second, to those who complained it had no humor. This book had me laughing so hard several times I almost had to pull over! Perhaps these people had not read ALL of the other series, so maybe some of the humor went over their heads, but even still the same wit and humor Michael put in all his other books is in this one too.
Third, to those that say he changed the character at the end. I can only assume he means Selene as Will did not change (see first comment), he stuck to his beliefs. While I do agree Selene's choices in the end were troubling, I don't think they are so far outside the realm of possibility especially given her companion of the previous few months. Without giving major spoilers I would just say, again, I think these are people who have not read ALL of the previous books, as there are many difficult and sad things in those books. It is the author that can make you so care about the characters and make them so real that they are fallible that is cherished, at least by me. I'd rather an author make me cry than pander, as long as the reason for crying is justified and realistic. And while I was saddened by Selene's choices, especially when she tried to say she did it all for Will knowing that it went against everything Will believed in. I think she did it for power, or maybe because she was persuaded by her companion (at least that's what I want to believe), but in any event, her choices were misguided at best, but we are all entitled to make bad choices, and if I am right, perhaps in a future book Selene's world may yet be set right. But, since the world is not always perfect, having imperfect characters gives Michael's books a sense of realism, and yes I saw the reviews that people only want true escapism in their reading, I would say get over it. True escapism/fantasy is not that interesting if there is no growth of character and story. But, again, that's just me.
Fourth, to those that complained about TGR mispronouncing Selene's name, I say again, get over it, while yes it is noticeable, and makes you go, huh, for a split second, it is not that big of a deal to take anything away from the book, or to complain. It is a long time between books, at least for the narrator, and with how many books TGR narrates, I think it's a testament to his skill there are not more errors in pronunciations and the like. TGR is hands down one of the best narrators out there, and his performances take me so out of my reality that sometimes I've driven past my exit.
Okay, rant over and I hope you will read or listen to this book and love it as much as I did. I have read all of Michael's books, and the Mageborn series more than once. I look forward to the "feels" he gives through great character development and story. Keep telling the stories Michael. I will be there to read/listen to them all.

I really want to listen to these and have tried several times to listen to this one but I cannot get past the narrator. Her “breathy” way of talking drives me insane. I’ve listened to the other three and liked them very much. I really like the world creation and the characters. So to read these I’ll go back to reading actual words on the page. It’s sad because I really enjoy listening.

Historia
The White Lich has conquered Tanar Atain. Soon, he means to take the entire world. Dante suspects his next target will be Bressel, where the Tanarians have established their court in exile. The only chance to stop the lich will be to forge a fragile alliance between the bitter enemies of three different lands: Tanar Atain, Mallon, and Narashtovik. The city stands on the brink of rebellion. Yet even if Dante, Blays, and Gladdic can unite it, they still might not have the strength to stand against the army of the lich.

Revisado: 12-12-21
I enjoy these books very much on audible. The characters are very interesting but it is Tim Gerard Reynolds performance that makes these great. I listened to them all as they came out and just recently listened to them all one after the other. Even knowing what was coming I was still captivated and found myself listening hours at a time instead of just when in my car.

Yippee a new series
Revisado: 08-26-21
I love all books by Michael Sullivan and I first discovered him because the books were narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds, who is one of my two favorite narrators.
I will listen to this several times as I have all of the books. You can’t go wrong with any of his books. While I think it’s a great book if it is your first experience with Elan I personally am very glad I have read all the others and can’t wait to see how he ties it all back to the first series.

I missed Todd McClaren’s narration
Revisado: 09-30-18
First off I love these books. The characters are well developed and I find myself not just listening in the car, but taking them with me everywhere I can. In the first book of Champions, the change in narrator was noticeable but not overly disturbing because it was primarily from Gram’s viewpoint. I found myself slightly unhappy at certain pronunciations of names (Cyan, which he corrected in book 2) and voices used for characters such as Mordecai and Penny.
In this second book I found it quite bothersome. It’s not that Derek Perkins is a bad narrator, on the contrary he is very skilled and I will look for other books he has done.
The issue for me is that I went straight from Final Redemption to this series so the narration change was quite frustrating for me, after 6 books with Todd McClaren.
I then went to the new book Mordecai and was bothered even more by that narrator, but again it’s not because of lack of skill on the part of Alex Wyndham. I also determined quite early that I needed to read the three Champions books before this one.
I think it’s important for authors and publishers to know that the voice of the characters is important to those of us that listen to audio books. It’s not like when reading that we develop our own voice, but become dependent on the narrator. I don’t begin to understand why Todd McClaren did not continue to voice these characters, but I wanted the author and publisher to know that changing narrators should be avoided if at all possible, at least in my opinion, especially if the narration is good. Bad narrators can destroy even the best of books.
I now will need to take a break before continuing these books, despite how much I want to find out what has happened to Matt, to allow some time for my brain to hopefully forget a bit of the original performance.
But for anyone not already absorbed by this entire series I highly recommend them all and thank Mr. Manning for sharing these characters and his brilliantly crafted world of magic.

Historia
In Age of Myth, fantasy master Michael J. Sullivan launched audiences on an epic journey of magic and adventure, heroism and betrayal, love and loss. Now the thrilling saga continues as the human uprising is threatened by powerful enemies from without—and bitter rivalries from within. Raithe, the God Killer, may have started the rebellion by killing a Fhrey, but long-standing enmities dividing the Rhunes make it all but impossible to unite against the common foe. And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess renders them indistinguishable from gods?

Great story, amazing and full characters. A fantastic presentation of the history of Elan, had me in tears the emotion was so real and heartfelt. So much fun to see what 3,000 years did to change the real story and quite more fun to see how things develop into familiar things. Very creative and of course a brilliant performance by the incomparable Tim Gerard Reynolds.
