Taylor was a participant in the Nuremberg trials as a prosecutor and later as lead prosecutor, so he had a first person view of proceedings. The account is very detailed and interesting, but it is also highly repetitive and, I fear, legalistic. I expect other books about the proceedings offer more entertainment value. Taylor freely states his opinions about the legal and ethical issues raised by the proceedings, but patently and fairly, I think. The reader presents well, but the number of words he mispronounces (maybe a dozen) is astounding and cringing.

This is my second Tana French book, and I think she is a first-rate writer of mysteries. The narrator is very good also EXCEPT none of the characters has an Irish accent and all but one should. That’s disappointing.

I think this book might be difficult to read, but the audio performance was brilliant, bringing out all the best in the book I might not have discovered on my own. Funny, irreverently poignant, exceedingly clever.

Scott Brick reads much of the book in a song-song voice seemingly intended to sound portentous and to convey foreshadowing, irony, sentiment, you name it. Very tiresome. Larson’s story, as with his other books, is well told, laden with details that are interesting and engaging, even if not significant. He switches from uboat to Lusitania to British intelligence to Woodrow Wilson as the story develops chronologically, which works very well.
