Historia
In Robert E. Lee, the award-winning historian Allen Guelzo has written the definitive biography of the general, following him from his refined upbringing in Virginia high society, to his long career in the U.S. Army, his agonized decision to side with Virginia when it seceded from the Union, and his leadership during the Civil War. Above all, Guelzo captures Robert E. Lee in all his complexity--his hypocrisy and courage, his outward calm and inner turmoil, his honor and his disloyalty.

Not the man I expected
Revisado: 03-15-25
Good well balanced look at a man who is both vilified and worshipped. Author did a great job telling about a man who existed in a time different from ours and did not fit any mold that people wanted to put him in both then and now.

Historia
Did you know bears never die? There are many unknown facts about these fur-adorned mammals. Because the hard truths about bears can be difficult to process, society often shields itself from the realities of the true threat bears pose to mankind. Every book written on bears has been a lie. People live under the false impression that bears can be avoided, that bear attacks are survivable, and even that bears are not immortal. Suffice it to say, people have a lot to learn about bears, bear safety, bear attacks, and the impending war between man and bear.

Unimpressed
Revisado: 03-02-24
The end felt rushed and forced to line up with the details earlier on in the story instead of falling into place. I found myself laughing throughout for all the wrong reasons. Every time there was a "twist" it didn't seem to fit. The basic idea of the story could have been better executed.

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

Historia
New York, 1888. Gas lamps still flicker in the city streets, but the miracle of electric light is in its infancy. A young untested lawyer named Paul Cravath, fresh out of Columbia Law School, takes a case that seems impossible to win. Paul's client, George Westinghouse, has been sued by Thomas Edison over a billion-dollar question: Who invented the lightbulb and holds the right to power the country?

Fun story
Revisado: 04-21-22
About as accurate as a Hollywood movie, but a fun melodrama inspired by actual events. The author did include a breakdown of the historical inaccuracies and a bibliography, which is very refreshing to have. It saved a lot of googling.

I’ve listen and watched so many versions of this story, but never the original. Glad I finally listened. John Lee did a great job! I enjoyed his turn in the Pillars of the Earth series and enjoy his performance here too. Great book, great story, and great performance!

Narration switching is weird
Revisado: 09-29-20
The way this seems to jump from narration to cast back to narration is a little confusing. Both forms are done well, I just wish the reasoning was more apparent.

Bought it for my 10 year old and we listened while riding in the car together and he thoroughly enjoyed the entire Homelander series. His two younger brothers would also ask to listen as well. Good wholesome story with characters dealing with gray area morality.
