this is a romance, an adventure, and really good book.
I recommend it wholeheartedly.
the guild codex series is great but I could easily see someone picking this up and getting into it without the backstory.
the only criticism I have is for the performance of the narrator. the protagonists are 20 something modern guys from downtown Vancouver. but they sound like grizzled war veterans or something. I still enjoyed it, but kind of odd. mostly noticable with Aaron and Ezra.

This series is hard to out down.

Annette Marie writes relatable, flawed, Human feeling characters. Tori and Robin aren't empty reader insert characters they feel like people you wouldn't mind having a beer with. they make motivated decisions and have moments of real self doubt and triumph alike. I've recommenders these series to several friends and I recommend it to you.

this is Sci fi at its most heartfelt

Sci fi is more than techno dressing.
a good story isn't defined by such things.
Eve's story is impactful, relatable and heartfelt as any fiction I have ever read. the Sci fi asthetic gives the reader a perspective, and the suspension of disbelief to explore questions about life that are hard to describe in hypothetical.
life and sentience are pretty vague concepts. not the sort of thing where you can just draw a line in the sand and keep everything you don't want on the other side.
Eve is alive and deserves the care, and consideration we would give to any child. and the social worker treats her that way without prejudice. I hope we can all cone to see things as clearly when it matters.

Music is magical, no really it's how magic happens

Such a clever and simple idea very reminiscent of Harry Potter, great characters, lighthearted, and a bit spooky.
tons of musical in jokes I probably don't understand them all and the best use of background music in an audiobook I've heard.
kind of Halloween themed too so give it a look this october.

brilliant satire epic story.

a poinient look at the tragedy caused by ill conceived adventuring.
If you've played d&d or pathfinder and really explored the world of adventuring. you will enjoy this allot.
It's so weird, it's so good.

I love Tamora Pierce and the world of Tortall
This isn't my favorite series in the universe but it is really good.
An original and clever perspective in a fantasy setting.
The 1st and 2nd books are solid buddy cop material and this book adds depth and scale really fitting this series into the larger universe.
I would love to see these stories in film or dramatic television.

This is a difficult book to get interested in,

perhaps this is mostly due to the period in which this was written but I could not maintain interest in this. Mr Tesla is introspective, a bit self absorbed and opinionated, or at least that's how he came across in this.
I didn't make it very far in and I can't say much more than that.

an epic in scope, grounded in the mundane af a real military, a real war, and the day to day life of officers and gentlemen.

I've never read the physical book and I enjoyed this abridged version.
I'm normally annoyed by abridged audio books but I found this one much more enjoyable than typical abridged books.
I would happily listen to a sequel done the same way.
the only downside to this book is how short it is.
the year of life in these creatures world rushes by.
