Historia
Arthur Parnassus lives a good life built on the ashes of a bad one. He’s the headmaster of a strange orphanage on a distant and peculiar island, and he hopes to soon be the adoptive father to the six dangerous and magical children who live there. Arthur works hard and loves with his whole heart so none of the children ever feel the neglect and pain that he once felt as an orphan on that very same island so long ago. He is not alone: joining him is the love of his life, Linus Baker, a former caseworker in the Department in Charge of Magical Youth.

The narration destroyed it
Revisado: 04-08-25
A beautiful follow up to the first story!
A little redundant and slow at times, but overall greatly enjoyable
The narrator took an… interesting? perspective with his character choices
Didn’t hear the narration is first one, but after reading it on my own, the American and slightly affected British accents in this were…. Just pretty awful! Pulled me out of the story more times than I would have liked
Sometimes he didn’t keep track of who was who, but hey, his website says he’s REALLY GOOD AT THIS…. So it must have been an editing error?
I think the next reading of this will be on my own

The stories are not bad
Revisado: 02-03-22
The narrator tears me right out of the stories. His voice should not be reading anything out loud. Voice… timing… pronunciation.
Just, no thank you

When Special Agent Nikki Hunt is called to the Boundary Waters near Stillwater, Minnesota, it’s not just the cold that shocks her to her core: the body of a young woman has been found frozen beside a remote lake. Nikki is devastated to see the victim is her childhood friend Annmarie, and she recognizes the velvet ribbon tied in her hair as the hallmark of a serial killer who she has been hunting for years.

Wish the narrator could edit
Revisado: 12-31-21
Something that this author does repeatedly, is repeat. It might not be as noticeable if one were reading it as a text, but when it’s read out loud the repetitions become annoying. Three times in the space of 5 or 6 sentences we are told that Nikki remembered where her grandmothers room was, off the kitchen to the left. Bad editing? Poor writing? I’m not sure. It detracts from a storyline and character development that already strain the bounds of believability…. It’s meh

Not worth it
Revisado: 07-23-21
It’s a great idea, but very poorly executed
It got predictable very quickly although the author wanted to present it wasn’t.
Also, please get a new editor!
Repetitive phrases and worn-out descriptions made you feel like you were listening to the same chapter over and over and over
If I hear “her/his head fell forward in a nod” one more time I might throw my ear buds

Nope
Revisado: 06-22-20
Let’s get past the fact that the blonde white lady is writing as a Cherokee woman, poorly
Let’s get past that our hero apparently lives in a Christian rape-apologist slut-shaming universe and doesn’t know the meaning of consent or personal space but don’t worry she rides a motorcycle and knows how guns work so SHE IS A BADASS REALLY PLEASE BELIEVE IT
then we have the worst character development I’ve seen in years. Just... wow
On top of a writing style that is apparently based on “let’s repeat the same exact sentence every chapter in case the reader didn’t get it the first three times”
And, while I’m all for the “throwing the reader in the deep end and explaining later” approach, this was such a poor attempt at filling in the blanks later.... such utter shite... that I kept checking online to make sure this was ACTUALLY the FIRST book.
Does the series get better???
Utter waste
And, not huge in the grand scheme of it all, but the narrator could do a better job at accents. I mean she could made less of an effort, but it would have been difficult

Historia
Things are looking up. For the first time in what feels like years, October "Toby" Daye has been able to pause long enough to take a breath and look at her life - and she likes what she sees. She has friends. She has allies. She has a squire to train and a King of Cats to love, and maybe, just maybe, she can let her guard down for a change.

Still great

I really enjoyed this one, although I get a bit tired of Toby constantly sacrificing herself stupidly (though mostly out of noble cause) but the story was satisfying and engaging as usual.

Waste of time
Revisado: 06-26-15
Though I appreciate her attempt at spreading the message of healthy body image, this is an unbalanced, poorly researched book. It's obvious pretty quickly who she respects and who's theories and advice she has a problem with. She cherry-picks theories and statistics to support her view, and equates correlation with causation EVEN THOUGH she keeps reminding listeners NOT to do those very things. I'm sure there's better out there.... Don't waste your time here.
