Historia
Arimnestos of Plataea was one of the heroes of the Battle of Marathon, in which the heroic Greeks halted the invading Persians in their tracks, and fought in the equally celebrated naval battle at Salamis. But even these stunning victories only served to buy the Greeks time, as the Persians gathered a new army, returning with overwhelming force to strike the final killing blow. For the Greeks, divided and outnumbered, there was only one possible strategy: attack. And so, in the blazing summer of 479 BC, Arimnestos took up his spear one final time at the Battle of Plataea.

Historia
Nora Kelly, a young curator at the Santa Fe Institute of Archaeology, is approached by historian Clive Benton with a once-in-a-lifetime proposal: to lead a team in search of the so-called "Lost Camp" of the tragic Donner Party. Benton tells Kelly he has stumbled upon an amazing find: the long-sought diary of one of the victims, which has an enigmatic description of the Lost Camp. Nora agrees to lead an expedition to locate and excavate it-to reveal its long-buried secrets. Once in the mountains, they learn that discovering the camp is only the first step in a mounting journey of fear.

abysmal
Revisado: 10-14-19
I liked Pendergast books, but based on this one, I'll likely not read anything else by these authors or listen to anything this narrator performs. This story was so predictable yet disjointed and not one character was even remotely likable or believable. The female FBI agent could not possibly be more rude or annoying and Nora was remarkably unprofessional and dumb. I really struggled to finish this one and was thrilled when it was over. don't waste your time on this. and the narrator could not have been more one note and slow! I've seen grammar school plays with more talent!

In rural, impoverished Burgoyne County, New York, a pattern of strange deaths begins to emerge: Adolescent boys and girls are found murdered, their corpses left hanging in gruesome, ritualistic fashion. Senior law enforcement officials are quick to blame a serial killer, but their efforts to apprehend this criminal are peculiarly ineffective.

so disappointed
Revisado: 05-09-19
I read the alienist years ago and absolutely loved the book so was very happy to see a book by Caleb Carr on audible! boy was I disappointed. I know this is a fictional work, but even fiction should have some basis in reality particularly when dealing with the world of criminal science and trying to make the argument that it is flawed. it is most certainly flawed and has been proven to be so in many instances but this book's sweeping generalizations were both incorrect and incredibly offensive. the characterization of all cops being bloodthirsty corrupt thugs who just want to shoot guns is incredibly irresponsible writing. every profession has its bad apples and every profession goes through its ups and downs, but the large and vast majority of professionals working both in law enforcement and criminal science are knowledgeable individuals who are not blinded by ambition or ego as described by the author. bottom line is the story was flat had so many holes and was so incredibly offensive that I will never listen to another Caleb Carr novel again.

ugh. decent story and well-written, but so formulaic. Please, please Mr. Brown...try and understand that not every woman's life's dream is to have a child. And can't you for once not have a stunningly attractive female lead? welcome to earth...
