Apparently it's not only me
Revisado: 08-04-10
Because many things have already been said about this book (with which I mostly agree), I'll simply say this is still a Sookie novel, she's still that silly girl, the story is ok in general, but you have that irky feeling that you're only getting HALF of the book you were supposted to get. Many loose ends, which is unusual for this series.
Well, it's like with Harry Potter movies - why oh why do they have to make a 2-parter? Kerching!

Historia
Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead.

Mixed feelings
Revisado: 05-06-10
At first, it DOES sound like a Sookie rip-off: a southern girl in an old house inherited after her grand-aunt, with a handsome vamp that is her neighbour and owns a mansion nearby. Does the name "Gabriel Knight" tell you anything? Here, you'll have Gabriel Nightingale. :)
However, pretty soon I notice this was not the biggest problem with this book. I had problems adjusting to the sitcom humour pervading the story, especially the few first chapters. Secondly, there is no substantial storyline for me for about 75% of the novel. Most of the book seems like a blog about a newly turned vampire. I mean Sookie's novels are entertaining because something actually happens there - there's action. This is not the case here. It seems as if the author realised - halfway through the book - that she had to add something more to the story at some point, otherwise nobody would want to read further.
All in all, surprisingly, I quite enjoyed listening to this audiobook. Does this have to do with the excellent job of Amanda Ronconi? Perhaps. I am sure I have to take a break from our Jane here for a while.

Now it's the turn of the weres and shifters to follow the lead of the undead and reveal their existence to the ordinary world.Sookie Stackhouse already knows about them, of course - her brother turns into a panther at the full moon, she's friend to the local Were pack, and Sam, her boss at Merlotte's bar, is a shifter. At first the great Were revelation seems to go well - then the horribly mutilated body of a were-panther is found outside Merlotte's.

Very good
Revisado: 03-03-10
After the disappointing (IMO) "From Dead to Worse", this is one of the stronger parts in the series. Nevertheless, sometimes I'm surprised how Sookie can miss some obvious hints as to what's going to happen next (the same was with the summit's surprise in "All Together Dead"). Well, otherwise, there would be no fun, right?
Again, -1 star for the poor quality of the audio. :( (BTW, did anyone else notice Johanna Parker lost the accent that Eric used to have e.g. in part 1?)

Historia
The supernatural community in Bon Temps, Louisiana, is reeling from two hard blows: the natural disaster of Hurricane Katrina and the manmade horror of the explosion at the vampire summit in the up-north city of Rhodes. Sookie Stackhouse is safe but dazed, and she's yearning for things to get back to normal. But that's just not happening. Too many vampires - some friends, some not - were killed or injured, and her were-tiger boyfriend Quinn is among the missing.

Least favourite
Revisado: 03-03-10
Not because it's boring - oh no - but because I could not come to terms with Sookie's love-related decisions. Actually this one particular that she takes near the end of the book. It bothered me so much that I even had to stop listening as I felt a great dislike toward Sookie for a few days. Oh, well, she's not a real person, eh? Besides, I have a feeling the author simply wanted to make room for ... well, you'll see.
Another thing is the plot related to the new relative of hers she meets. Sorry, this was plain boring for me but, as I see it, this is an introduction to what happens in the next book.
Finally, I confirm - the audio quality is poor. Very poor. Maybe in other formats it's better.

Historia
Sookie doesn't have that many relations, so she hated to lose one - but of all the people to go, she didn't expect it to be her cousin Hadley, a consort of New Orleans' vampire queen - after all, Hadley was technically already dead. But she is gone, beyond recall, and she's left Sookie an inheritance - one that comes with a bit of a risk - not least because someone doesn't want Sookie digging too deep into Hadley's past - or her possessions.

Definately read it!
Revisado: 03-03-10
Though not my favourite, this is definately a must. I really like this one especially because we're (finally!) introduced to many new characters (my favourite are Amelia and Quinn). As in Club Dead, there's a lot of action and there's romance. And poor Sookie learns something about Bill she'd rather forgot.

Sookie comes to the rescue of a naked, amnesiac vampire - and ends up in the middle of a war between witches, werewolves and vampires!Sookie Stackhouse is a small-town cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. She's pretty. She does her job well. She keeps to herself - she has only a few close friends, because not everyone appreciates Sookie's gift: she can read minds.

Kinda disappointing
Revisado: 03-03-10
As expected, the inevitable happens in the book (sorry, I'm not giving you spoilers but you'll know when you see it). Interestingly, this kinda disappointed me (I mean was it a bit tacky or was it just me?). Another thing is the main witch-related plot. I'm sorry, it was plain boring for me, especially the so-called 'climax.' Ok, end of nagging. Though this is my least favourite part, I can still recommend it as a good read. Johanna Parker always saves the day for me.

There's only one vampire Sookie Stackhouse is involved with - at least voluntarily - and that's Bill. But recently he's been a little distant - in another state distant. His sinister and sexy boss, Eric, has an idea where to find him, and next thing Sookie knows she's off to Jackson, Mississippi, to mingle with the underworld at Club Dead.

Page-turner
Revisado: 03-03-10
This is one of my favourites among Sookie Stackhouse books: there's drama (oh, Bill!), there's action (real stakes in real flesh) and there's romance (Alcide the Werewolf - now that one you have to meet). Johanna Parker great as usual. This is a real page-turner (so to speak ;)).

As expected
Revisado: 03-03-10
or even better as the Maryanne-related plot is handled better than what I saw on TV. Johanna Parker does a good job and the book is enjoyable, though this time (as opposed to part 1 of Sookie's series) you can expect more differences between the book and the TV series. All in all, a good listen.
