Quintessential whodunnit
Revisado: 05-18-23
This is full of the twists and turns, ups and downs that make whodunnits so enjoyable. Initially I got it because I love most everything narrated by George Guidell . I was not familiar with the author. Now that I am, I’ll be looking for more titles by him.

Galbraith (Rowling) is a brilliant writer
Revisado: 02-27-23
I’m a big fan of the C.B. Strike tv series but, as usually happens, I found the book to be better. The first season of the series focuses on the same crime but you miss out on the beautiful way Galbraith uses words. From their choice of phrasing to the intricate web of the story line this novel is a wealth of riches to listen to. I highly recommend to anyone who likes crime stories without graphic gore and that focus on the detective work it takes to unravel “who done it”. Kudos also to the reader who does an excellent job!

Historia
Most of the world remembers Crazy Horse as a peerless warrior who brought the U.S. Army to its knees at the Battle of Little Bighorn. But to his fellow Lakota Indians, he was a dutiful son and humble fighting man who, with valor, spirit, respect, and unparalleled leadership, fought for his people's land, livelihood, and honor. In this fascinating biography, Joseph Marshall, himself a Lakota Indian, creates a vibrant portrait of the man, his times, and his legacy.

A Must Listen!
Revisado: 02-04-23
History is written by the victor. Only much later might we hear the other side. This is a partial glimpse at the other side’s telling. I was deeply moved by the way the author told and read this story. I highly recommend it!

Historia
In this definitive biography of one of Hollywood's most beloved stars, Michael Munn reveals the truth behind the diffident, earnest and kindly persona of Jimmy Stewart. Drawn from the author's formal interviews and informal meetings with the star and his friendship with Stewart's wife, Gloria, is this portrait of a man who came from the Presbyterian traditions of Pennsylvania to become one of the silver screen's enduring legends.

The Legend and the Man
Revisado: 01-23-23
As a longtime fan of Jimmy Stewart I learned a lot about the man the legend is built around. Jimmy the man had some traits of his era, the same era as my own father, that I don’t admire but there’s no denying his talent or his film legacy. In spite of his less admirable qualities I still admire him. He was a complex human, as are we all.
The reader, being British, pronounces some very well known names very differently than Americans know them. He does an admirable job of lending some of Stewart’s voice to his narration without going for a full on imitation, I liked that.

Another Bosch Gem
Revisado: 01-11-23
Connelly is masterful again. I love the whole Harry Bosch series of books. Titus Welliver is Harry to me so his reading adds to the ease of listening. Christine Lakin does a nice job too.
In addition to the superior story line/detective work, this one is poignant as well. No spoilers allowed so I can’t really give a review that expresses all of my reaction. Nevertheless, I recommend this one as highly as all of the previous novels.

Historia
Aminata Diallo is the beguiling heroine of Lawrence Hill's Someone Knows My Name. In it, Hill exquisitely imagines the tale of an 18th-century woman's life, spanning six decades and three continents. The fascinating story that Hill tells is a work of the soul and the imagination. Aminata is a character who will stir listeners, from her kidnapping from Africa through her journeys back and forth across the ocean.

Epic!
Revisado: 01-07-23
This one will stay with me a very long time. It’s the first I’ve read that describes all three of the passages. The first being the long walk to the coast. The middle being the the crossing of the ocean. The third, the journey from their landing spot in America to the place they are to be a slave. This is heartbreaking enough but Aminata’s journey through life involves many more than the initial three. No spoilers here.
I highly recommend this listen. The reader is perfect. You’re not very far into the story before you accept that she IS Aminata.

A good espionage listen
Revisado: 12-27-22
First, I want to address George Guidall, the reader. I have listened to A LOT of George Guidall-read books and he’s one of my favorite for the western setting stories but his foreign accents are a miss. Still, this story was really good and George excels in every aspect of the telling except the accents. I find it like having speed bumps on the open road.
I would still recommend it to anyone who likes a good spy novel with cleverly woven twists and turns.

Historia
Walt thinks he might find the answers he's looking for among the ruins of an old Native American boarding school—an institution designed to strip Native children of their heritage. He has been haunted by the image of the Fort Pratt Industrial Indian Training School ever since he first saw a faded postcard picturing a hundred boys in uniform, in front of a large, ominous building—a postcard that was given to him by Jimmy Lane, the father of Jeanie One Moon.

Revisado: 12-20-22
If you like Twilight Zone tales mixed with what-lies-beyond-and-between, you will probably enjoy this book. As usual George Guidall’s extraordinary narration is the highlight of this story. I thought Walt’s struggles went a little long but it’s another fine Longmire episode and I look forward to the next one.

A Wild Ride
Revisado: 12-17-22
I found the story started a little slow but I liked that sometimes. It works with story because it builds momentum, like a freight train. There are a lot of turns taken at high speed and the right amount of restful straight track. I did find the seemingly endless situations that put the main character in peril a bit of a stretch BUT I still couldn’t stop listening. In the end, a thoroughly enjoyable listen.

Historia
Across Brattleboro, Vermont, rich people (some with dark secrets) are waking up in their high security, alarm-equipped homes to find a Post-it note stuck to their bedside tables reading, “You’re it.” There is little sign of disturbance anywhere, nothing stolen (that anyone admits) and only a bit of expensive food eaten as a signature. The press loves the story and dubs the burglar the Tag Man. But who is he? And what’s he actually doing?

Another excellent Archer Mayor investigation
Revisado: 12-09-22
Mayor knows how to weave a compelling who-done-it or two while incorporating engaging personalities and their strengths and quirks. Having said that, there have been 3 readers throughout the series and in my opinion Tom Taylorson is the only one who nails the voice of Joe Gunther. Dufris is excellent at the narration and most of the characters. His Gunther voice sounds like he’s holding back a burp as he speaks and his version of Willie’s voice is inconsistent. For me, it was like cruising down the highway and hitting a speed bump every time there were long spaces between the rest of the story and Gunther’s dialogue.
Still, if you have listened to and enjoyed others in the series, I recommend you listen this one too.
